Default Showtime 90 for pattern?

Hey Guys

Is a H9 Showtime 90 OK for pattern? (from sportsman and slightly up)

Zac and I have a Excelleron 50 and a BH Bravo 303 but feel they are under powered. We thought of a dedicated pattern plane such as the Surpass 90 or Hurricane and have only just started in pattern comps but I thought the Showtime would cover a couple of flying styles.

I have the Extra260 but not sure if they'll lets us compete with that.

Any suggestions are welcome

Hi Roy, Ive had a showtime 90 with a YS 110 and also a couple of dedicated pattern planes - they are chalk and cheese. The showtime is perhaps more versatile and is a great fun-fly but nothing like as precise as a pattern plane. My pattern plane is in for a spray job at the moment but when it returns your welcome to have a fly. I guess you need to decide what your going to use it for, for a Sunday fun machine and an adequate pattern plane the Showtime is great for pattern comps go the dedicated plane. Just my 2c worth though.

We've had two of them......... They make an okay beginner pattern bird but just make sure they aren't warped! The ailerons were warped on both of them and the vertical fin was offset to the right on the first one. I think the QC dept kinda went to sleep on the first shipment of these things but subsequent kits have been fine. (I just haven't owned one of those!)

I really like my Showtime with an Surpass II 120 in it. It can certianly be used as a pattern plane but I honestly feel there are better choices. For instance the Venus II is getting good reviews in pattern circles as great beginner/novice pattern plane.

Check out the new Focus Sport from Piedmont Models. I have it's bigger brother and it flies amazing. This will definitely get you through Sportsman and probably Intermediate.

Yeah one of the guys at the comp suggested that as well but I'm worried about weight as I am sure is over 5kgs (I'll have to weigh it up one day )

I'll ask Simon from QPFA if its OK for Sportsman entry.

ANything bigger than foamy from the USA is a killer on shipping plus the risk of damage. My 260 came from OS but they sent pics of the package before shipping! Not many people will do that, but yeah hav eheard good things about the Focus II and the Focus Sport as well.

Hey Scotty

Use is for pattern flying and not 3D. Yes we will fly it at all the clubs but I am leaning more to pattern comp but dont want a Comp ARF or Oxai model at this stage of the game.
Chris G. suggested a Venus II over an Excelleron with a YS110.

Yeah a couple of the guys have the Venus 2 with a Ys 110 and it looks good - it may not cost a lot more to get a 120 size like the WM Zen3 or similar - the bigger planes definately fly nicer.

Cheers Scotty
