You are exactly right! That is exactly how the wings attach, and the cowl is straight with no cheeks or bulges. The picture you attached is identical to my plane. Thank you. Now, was that a kit or an ARF? Can I buy a wing for this thing or am I gonna have to build it? I don't know much about these larger scale planes. Is the wing built and then filled with foam, or do you start with the foam and cover it with ply or fiberglass or what? If I do a Google search should I just look for a company called Ace R/C or Ace Radio or what?

They no longer kit the plane. I doubt that it's been made in at least 15 years.... It was a kit.(obviously way before ARF's were reliable) The wing should be a block of foam with balsa covering it.(maybe even fiberglass depending on who built it) Landmark plane back in the day.

Yep, It's definitely an Ace R/C 33% Extra 230. It's designed by Jim Van Loo of Council Bluffs Iowa at that time. Its circa 1987 roughly. Jim Van Loo ran a company called "R/C Extras" before Ace R/C acquired it, ... so that plane could be either one ... Kit was incredibly over built with dual vertical plywood spars that ran from root to tip sandwiched between foam cores. The vertical spars overlapped in the fuse and bolted together as someone else noted. No wing tube in this baby! After Jim sold "R/C Extras" to Ace .. he then started selling a kit of the TR 260 around 1989 with the same construction. I had one.

I was looking for a post about this plane. I have had the 33% for about 15 years. I just started flying again this year after 10 years or so. I had taken the engine out and radio, so I was just going to get it back together but I lost the manual and don't remember the C/G. Ultimate1 would you know where the C/G is for the 33%?

Thanks.

geesh.. you gotta get into these threads QUICK to get the first correct answer in.

One look and it had 230 written all over it (flat tail, tail wires, "Extra" style cowl and short 260 style canopy) . . after that. . had to figure out who made it.

Good job guys!!!!

I paid $100.00 as it sits. The plane still has all the electronics and batteries , fuel tank, smoker tank, engine, servos etc. in it. Receiver is a JR PCM 10S Receiver (no transmitter), engine is a 3W Heindel 60CC engine. Hell of a deal, huh.

Hey Walt, if I get a new wing core cut for the missing wing, how do I get the plywood spars into the wing core? I have been told they run the entire length of the wing. Does the wing need to be cut as separate pieces and then glue it all together like this: Foam leading edge, followed by large spar #1, followed by foam mid wing section, followed by smaller spar #2, followed by foam trailing edge? Or do I get the wing cut as one piece and then rip it from tip to base and remove the equivalent amount of foam to allow for the thickness of the spars and then glue it all together?

Old technology, but that is still a hell of a deal! It probably won't be any kind of 3D monster, but you ought to have some fun if you can get another wing made and get that thing in the air.

If it was me I would take the root and tip outlines and cut a foam core wing out, but I don't know if you have access to a foam cutting bow or not.
