Default Southwest Freestyle

Why is it that none of the Southwest events ever have a freestyle event. I know that there are enough capable pilots that would be interested in bringing this event to the beginner/sportsman/intermediate level. You don't need to be Leasberg, or in this years case Gernot Bruckman, to put together a freestyle routine. We build our skills as we move up in the precision classes, it would be nice to do the same with freestyle.
So who is with me on this?

I will speak for the Cactus Classic only. We don't have time. We 57 or 58 pilots that need to get 6 knowns and an unknown flown.

Power system is easy.......

couple of batteries, couple of switches, some servos an ignition........just keep it a rats nest and it will work forever!

Spike

There is a Freestyle event in Northern Cal that Downonthedeck puts on every year. I haven't been there but from what I understand they do a real good event. You might look into it.

Looks like a real good time.

Spike,

I will say for most contests Sunday at 3 pm we are starting to hand out trophies. If we had a freestyle event I would suggest it is not really "scored" but maybe while the scores are being finalized we could have crowd pleaser flights or something. Not sure how to put it into words. It just seems if we had a scored event it would easily add 2 hours to the contest.

Im not bashing your idea, I would love to have it. I just dont think we could fit it all in.

On a side note, one receiver, two batts, two regulators call it a day. Dont go overboad with it. Every ounce really helps with these planes. I know another receiver isnt much but I wish I could lose 2-4 ounces in my plane. Keep it as light and simple as possible. Just my .02.
