Default Sig Rascal 110 engine selection Gas vs. Nitro

Hi all, wondering which engine to choose for my new toy. Specs call for 1.2-1.5 2 stroke, 1.2-1.8 4 stroke or 1.3-1.5 gas. If I go with gas what additional equipment will I need. Does anyone have comments -/+ about Cermark, FPE, BCMA

I have a LS 26 in my 110 Rascal. It pulls it around nice with a APC 16X8 prop.I only run gas engines as I like there ease of use, economy and little clean up.

I'd go with a evolution 26GT as it is a more conventional motor like a two stroke glow engine for ease of mounting and narrow to install and very user friendly

I have a Rascal 110, and tried a Saito 1.80 because I want to do some glider towing. However the 1.80 has just too much vibration, and I switched to a Saito 1.50. That flies the plane well, but haven't done any glider tows yet. Be careful with some engines as the cowl for the plane is quite narrow, and may require a lot of hacking up to fit the muffler. The manual even shows cutting into the firewall just to install the muffler for the 1.50! I couldn't bring myself to cut intot he firewall so I got a nice compact muffler from Jim at TurbHeader in LA. and it works very nice, with no cutting of the cowl or firewall.

I saw a guy flying one with a FPE 1.4 and it flew really nice.

Zenoah G26 with EI, about 2 1/2 lbs, Mejzlik 18-6 prop, Abell muffler, 9000 rpm, 17+ lbs thrust measured at the tail wheel...This is an early version, I take the primer bulb off the carbs now and make a stronger 2 piece hub, no broken prop studs...

Ralph,
How will your new 29cc engine compare with the Zenoah G26? Just curious

Me too, the long block should be here Monday or Tuesday, will be converted right away and tested with the same prop....I did a CY26 with a full circle crank last year, ran a little slower than a G26...Should be close, the price will be right...
I think the Chung Yang is made in Taiwan, the quality of the 26 was excellent..Maybe we can put a little fear into the USA cheapie Chinese engine dealers...They all try to stick together on price, it's higher than it could be for what they cost...And I KNOW what they cost, a customer was in Beijing at the hobby showshow last month...VERY interesting, and might be fun.....Maybe I'll change my site name to RCMART...

Ralph, do you have an update on your new engine? There are a couple of new Chinese 26cc engines on the market that look nice but really don't put out the numbers (eg. 6700 on 18x6 Zinger). I think that spending $200 on an engine that isn't very powerful is $200 wasted, but if I wanted to spend $350 I would rather get a Zenoah. Yours should come in right in the middle somewhere...

Making the hub today, just got some more RC EXL ignitions to fit the spark plug...Should be tested this afternoon or tomorrow...I want to try a few different carbs to get the best performance...Looks like under $300...Maybe quite a ways under

I ran the Chung Yang 29 engine with the same 18-6 Mejzlik prop....Same as a G26, 8900 rpm with no time on the engine...
I bought some of the $10 and $25 Troy Bilt 25.6s off Ebay a while back, they run about like a G23...Good quality, just smaller ports so the power is less...Nothing in the 26cc class I have run so far will match a G26....

I am flying a Rascal 110 with a stock G-26, great combo. Built it before I discovered Ralph. The 29cc would be a good package at the projected price of the engine. Doc
