You don't need servo equalization as you only have 1 servo per surface...

You don't need a regulator if you use Nimh or A123 batteries...

I took the SmartFly Ign cutoffs off all my airplanes, but that's another story...

I still use Nimh batteries on 50cc planes for a variety of reasons... Removal of failure points being the most prominent... Not to mention removing weight & $$$ from the build cost...

KISS technique dude... Spend the $$$ if you like, but I don't see any ROI on this one...

many folks Don't run NIMH anymore...

Many folks Don't run A123 either

So for the price of a regulator and the ignition kill itself the product makes sense. Its his money and his decision. there are 100's of ways to power a plane no matter what size. Their is nothing wrong with this particular setup.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with the setup... Just overkill IMHO...

Oh Sam, there you go again. Such clear, reasoning has no place on an internet forum. Next thing you know, you'll be insisting on enforcing the pilot, panel rule in IMAC...

Thanks for the input guys!! Yeah, I agree with the KISS initiative, and I'll be using NiMH batteries (dual 5-cell Sanyo 1950 FAUP packs) to drive the Rx and the servos.... Thinking about it, indeed the Power Expander isn't a "crucial thing".

I also need an additional charger, and since it's more or less about the same cost, right now I'm tipping over to the charger. I'll put some glow stuff I don't use anymore up for sale and probably buy the Power Expander with the money coming from it....

I have not heard anything bad about the ign cut off unit. I bought a powersystem(built in reg version) for my 50cc and one for an 85cc. I am running three 2600 fromecos. Two for controls and one for ign. Simple charge with the Ion Cube. Wanted to keep both planes the same also. So I needed regs, switches, batshare and ign cutoff. It seemed like a good option to me. I have no problem paying a little more for extra ins. If it can happen, it will. I am not only worried about my plane but the people and property around me. I don't want to loose control of my plane while I am attempting 3D move down on the deck.

I also know my 50cc will not last forever and will take along hardware to my next(bigger) plane.

Thanks for the offer!! But I just pulled the trigger for the charger I was needing, so the Power Expander will have to wait a little...

Yes, your thought makes sense. Probably, this is why they say 50~85cc only, as models of this size will use considerably less servos (one per surface) thus keeping the overall current low...

But it would still be interesting to know the real reasons behind the decision not to go with Deans on it. It seems like the major advantage of a Power Expander is getting rid of the "bottleneck" at the battery connectors....
