...and finally, rigging the pull/pull at the rudder. Again, center the servo with the programmer or receiver first. I use the same technique with two crimps per attach point. Be sure to silicone around the servo screw to keep it from vibrating loose.

With the rudder setup complete, it is time to install the stab/elevators. Each half is held in place on the carbon tube with two sets of bolts/washers. Again, Loctite is appropriate.

Hitec 5955TG on the elevators as well. I prefer the Hitec digitals over most other servos (particularly for the elevators) because I can easily reverse one servo for correct mechanical operation with the programming box, eliminating the need for a reversing Y or computer mix. You'll need one 24" extension for each elevator servo.

Same advice on the linkages, including centering the servo electronically, adjusting the ball links evenly for length, and using silicone to secure the servo screw.

One of my big pet peeves is a big jumble of wires floating around in the fuse, so I try my best to secure the wiring where possible. Here's a look down the fuse at the elevator servo extensions. Plenty of room in the fuse to to route the extensions through the bottom of the formers to help contain them. I used the smalled Zip-ties I could find and focused on keeping the wires away from the rudder pull lines. Makes for a really clean and functional installation.

Looks sweet! Any other color combo's planned? I like the blue, but have problems with seeing it.

Sure, we will probably do a version in reds/oranges/yellows for the next production run.

I can't think of anything worse than tempting providence by putting a conductive material around the plugs, have a look at the back of your plugs and sockets you can see the gold connectors, these only have to move the smallest amount to short out on the wire wrap, I consider this to be a big NO NO, use a non conductive material please or one of the now available snap connectors.

Interesting perspective and food for thought. This is a method I've been using for literally 15 years and probably a hundred models personally and have seen used extensively in a number of models including all of the AeroWorks manuals. Never, ever seen, heard of, or personally had a problem with it. Taken under advisement. Thanks!

Don, I'll look into those sleeves.

Back to the assembly - I prefer the Smart-Fly line of products, and have chosen to use them on this model as well. I'll use the following products on this assembly:

Smart-Fly Power Expander with fail safe flag switch
Smart-Fly Optical Ignition
Smart-Fly Ignition Regulator

Some may see this as overkill on a 50cc model, but if you take the straight weights of the added components compared to two heavy duty switch harnesses the increase is negligible. Setup, however is dramatically easier. With the Power Expander, I can plug my A123 receiver pack directly into the Power Expander and it regulates for the receiver while the servos get full voltage. I've also eliminated two heavy duty switches by using the pin/flag for the receiver and electronic switching for the ignition. Pretty slick install and less than 4 oz. for both the Power Expander and ignition switching (around the weight of to heavy-duty switch harnesses.

Good idea. Flossed or unflossed? Problem with that is I'd have to have the manual dexterity to tie a reasonable knot with what amounts to thread. To aleve concerns, I think I'll just hit each individual lead with CA, locking them in place (can't possibly back out if they're glued in), then continue to use the wire method. Thanks fellas!

The Optical Ignition is plugged in to a spare channel on the receiver and setup on a switch. I secured both the sending unit with Velcro and a zip-tie for security. In the bottom photo, you can see the pin/flag failsafe switch from the Power Expander.
