Default DA 85 IN 28% KRILL KATANA

I JUST BOUGHT A 28% KRILL KATANA AND I NEED SOME INPUT ON WHAT ENGINE I SHOULD PUT IN IT, I KNOW EVERYONE IS USING THE DA 50,IT SHOULD COME IN AROUND 19 LB ACCORIDING TO KRILL, THIS SEEMS A LITTLE HEAVY FOR A 50 CC PLANE, THE WING AREA IS 1813 SQ IN. I PLAN ON HOVERING THIS THING ALOT SO I WOULD LIKE SOME KILLER POWER , THE DA 50 WILL FLY IT WELL BUT I THINK I NEED A LITTLE MORE POWER, THE DA 85 SEEMS LIKE WAY OVER KILL. I WOULD LIKE TO STAY UNDER 4.5 LB ON THE ENGINE. THE EVO 58 LOOKS GOOD BUT IVE BEEN HEARING BAD THINGS ABOUT THAT MOTOR, PRETTY MUCH DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT THE DA 85 WOULD BE TOO MUCH ? THE WEIGHT IS NOT WHAT CONCERNS ME ITS HOW THE PLANE WOULD REACT WHEN YOU DO UP LINES @ FULL THROTTEL OR WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GIVE IT FULL THROTTEL FROM A HARRIER ECT. ANY INPUT FROM EXPERENCED PILOTS WOULD BE GREAT.

I've seen it flown on a DA50, it didn't lack power. I've seen it flown as electric no lack of power.
DA85 will most properly kill the plane, but it will sure be fun as long it last.
I've flown KRILL VELOX 33% equipped with the ZDZ80 super, even a lot told me to use a 100ccm, but my plane came out on 23lbs ready to fly, no problem to pull out, like a rocket.

If the plane is going to weigh 19 plus pounds and the wing area is 1800 plus then the da 85 will be fine. It weighs 4.2 pounds about the same as the evolution or mvvs 58 so i would use the da over the 58. That wing area will handle the total weight very easily. most 33%ers dont have that much wing area and fly at 22 pounds. The engine will have way more power than you will need so no full power level lines or down lines manage your throttle and possibly go 3 blade prop to absorb some of the excess power.

part 2 of your inquiry; giving it full throttle on up lines will give you full speed at that weight The throttle wont hurt the plane but the excess speed will so managing your throttle with respect to speed will be all you need to do

you might have trouble doing high alpha stuff because you will always be a couple of clicks above idle and will probably need a 3 balded prop to provide adequate clearance. you can always put in a throttle curve. and you will end up real heavy considering the engine, prop, and fuel tank and any reinforcing you might have to do,, ???will it even fit in the cowl???. How about getting it to balance?

love to see a video if you do get around to it.

I've seen the 28% Krill Katana fly with a DA50 and I've also taken a look under the hood. I don't think a DA85 would fit without having to butcher the cowl and redo the egnine mounting box. I'd also question whether the engine mounting system would support the vibration of a larger engine. Personally, I think you'd be nuts to put a DA85 in that airframe. It's a smallish airframe compared to something like the EF 50cc Yak. Just my opinion. Steve

can anyone confirm the wing area of 1813 SQ IN

the number seems a bit high for the size of the model

19 lbs? thats a tank... i would never even bother flying a 50cc powered bird that heavy. Howabout a Brilleli 60? 1 horse more than a da fiddy, and only 4oz heavier.

http://www.brillelli.com/brillelli_engines_012.htm
$595 engine/standoffs/muffler/ign.

i got one on my EF 88'' Yak

i was also going to say a brillelli 60 but you will not have a whole horse more just think of getting about 300 to 400 more rpm than a da 50 on the same prop. almost one more horse but not quite.

and with the new igntions that they have you can go with a 1 cell lipo no reg and save some weight.

What does dm2 mean? I thought decimeter squared but that equates to ~460 inches so i know that cant be right.

That wing area has to be wrong the wing span is only ~86 inches to have 1800 wing area it would be similar wing area to a 104" wingspan 35% extra Aero works to be specific.

I bet the wing area is closer to 1400 square inches.
