Update.......

Well I got going a little late this morning but I got the Hybrid started.

First of all I hate to cut my plans but since I have a spare set I just went ahead and did it. I lay out the wax paper over the plans so nothing sticks to the table but it always seems to happen anyway. I then glued the trailing edge balsa spar to a piece of hardwood as directed in the plans with wood glue. This will make it nice and straight. I like to use wood glue on these steps cause it is so much cleaner and will only use CA where it is absolutely necessary. The only down fall is that you sit and watch it dry and it seems to take forever but the more patience you have the better the outcome. I made one mistake already but it is no big deal. Instead of reading the instructions and following them I didn't. It said to cut the trailing edge and then laminate it to the hardwood but I never cut it so when the glue dries I will cut it down. Oh well this is not a big deal at all.

I will update you all with some more pictures when I complete some more steps. Stay tuned for some more updates today.

More Updates.....

I started cutting out the stabalizer parts. I use a small table saw like Walt does to cut my sticks and then to get them absolutely perfect I throw them on the disc sander and you get a nice clean cut stick. Everything was pinned and lined up to make sure it was a perfect fit on the plans. Then I glued the center section to the trailing edge of the stabalizer.

Now I am sitting here and waiting for some more glue to dry. I will possibly have some more updates by the end of the day.

Thanks Shane for the pictures and build thread! I have been thinking about building one these kits.
I built one of Ohio's 80 inch Edge profile kits a few years ago and had a blast with it!
It had a O.S. 160 on it,(POS!) or it would still be flying.

I was thinking of putting a DA50 on the hybrid and wondering if any one that has that combo thinks that they have enough power? With the 80" Edge and the O.S. 160, it was very marginal on power for 3D work.

Slinger,

I talked with John at OMP and he says that the DA-50 with a pipe is an awesome combo with unlimited power.

At the Huckfest in STL there was one with a DA on a pipe, but of course I missed when he flew it.

Tom,

Wow! Nice looking bird you have there. I see in the pictures that you have the fuel tank located in the back behind the wing tube. Is this for balance reasons? Is there anything I need to worry about as far as balance reasons of does it come out on the money? Thanks again!

Thanks : for your comments The tank is on the C/G the wing tube is just under the tank, try to build the plane as light as posable in the tail, light tail wheel ,carbon & titiaum push rods etc. I used a 1/4 scale digital servo for the rudder , try to use 5955 or some thing around that size. I had to add two lead strips on the fire wall to get the C/G close. Plane still fly's great. Hope this helps. TomBob

Thanks for all of the information guys! This sure does help so you do not miss a step in the long run.

I have the sides of the stabalizer glued up and the next step is to add the leading edge. The joints came out almost perfect on this one so I have to say that I am pretty happy with the way it came out.

More to come......

Tom,

Just a quick question for you. Are you using Robarts Hinges all the way around? Thanks
