Alright, I have authorized Dan to show up in person and kick my A$$ if I haven't finished building this thing by 1 week from Monday.
I got the bottom deck attached, built the rear servo bay for the rudder into the bottom deck extension (had to do it twice!), skinned and attached the "cheeks". Right now I'm building the hatch which is right where I wanted to be time wise. I'll try to get some writing done this week and post pics. The hatch is going smoothly except for one detail. The rear tabs are located such that one of them is going to interfere with the diagonal cross brace in the fuse. I've read the directions and looked at the plans and I think its a bug. I was planning to put blind nuts on the back of the hatch tabs and I may just leave that one off. With the way the hatch has to go in the blind nut is going to collide with the cross brace. Looking towards the finishing stage; which do you guys like better? I want to get away from the common colors. I want something simple and scale looking that's got good orientation visibility. I've been digging these two full scale paint jobs for a while.

I'd just be worried that "red and silver" will turn into "grey and grey-er" on cloudy days.
Yellow and blue tend to have better contrast over vary-ing light conditions. Tom |

Good point, silver can kinda disappear on a dreary day. I have also been warned that silver is a hard color to match.
On the flip side matching the yellow and blue in the other scheme will also be hard. There is a lot of red that should stay visible and I really like the silver one too!

Pics:
![]() ![]() Got the bottom deck extension build. Its got the servo box for the rudder in there. I don't have an after shot, ill try and get one. I had to do this part twice because the first some didn't taper enough. ![]() Its beginning to look like and airplane. You can see the tilting table on the band saw is getting some use. I'm cutting the back of the hatch to the right angle with it. ![]() More fun with drilling holes. These were the holes for the hatch bolts. I have a few more to do when I mount the formers for the cowl. The second shot is the hatch rail interface with the hatch. Its about 3 inches of bonding area, should be pretty strong. ![]() I made up the hatch rails first and put the screws in place so the rails couldn't move around. Then I put the glue on the hatch and taped it in just the right spot. Once the glue started to set up I added the hold downs with some poly glue and tacked them in place with CA. The hatch fits nice and snug. Very little sanding was needed to fit everything together.

Thanks for the encouragement. You have no idea how much filler this thing is going to need. I'm pretty clumsy so there are lots of dings and crushed bits. I try not to get too annoyed with myself when it happens because it seems to keep happening.
Covering has been ordered, I'm going with the Red/Yellow/Blue scheme using Monokote True Red, Yellow and Sapphire Blue. I don't think I have ever seen an airplane out there with quite that combination, the blue is certainly darker than most. Here are some more shots of Matt Halls's 202 in different lighting:

Here are the pics from the rudder servo install:
![]() That the box, the rails are set into the side walls so they cant come out. ![]() The finished product. ![]() Tonight I was closing in the motor box with 1/32" balsa, pretty tedious stuff. What should I paint inside with? Need something fuel proof and heat resistant. The 85 has got the carb exiting the rear of the motor so I expect to get some spray in there.

I don't have the can with me so I looked at about 60 pages of BBW Carden 300 to find the picture of it but didn't find it.
I have been using polyurethane since Walt recommended it in one of his builds. I don't remember the name of the stuff but it is the common yellow can. It seems to be fuel proof and it is clear. Can be bought in Gloss, Semi or flat whatever you prefer. I think the gloss allows clean up of fuel better. The plane is looking good but if you can be flying including paint in a week you are a better man than me. Mark |

Thanks! Link to walt's post. Its Minwax fast drying Polyurethane.
I'm trying to be flying by the end of the month. It needs to be assembled so I can cover and paint in the next two weeks. Covering wont be here until Tuesday/Wednesday next week so up to then is fine. I don't know if I'll get there but I'm gonna try. Paint may not be 100% done, might just base coat it and go fly.
