craig77, I think it is 25.5 pounds (11.5kg) dry with the 85. It will haul the mail at 26.5 (12kg) on the DA-100.
WrongWayRC, glad you're finding the thread useful.

Great build thread i just read it for the 1st time, I am considering a carden build but I am still working up the ballz to try it. Sorry about your spinner prob, I have been running CF spinners on my DA 50 w/o a problem IMO the best is the Mejzlik.

Repairs for the 2009 season have started. I won a $100 gift certificate from Carden Aircraft at the SC Regional Championships. I just wanted to thank them for that. I used it to get a new cowl and a J&J tail wheel.
First job is to repair the damage someones flip flop did when it went through the turtle deck. I learned my lesson about cutting the foam, always cut with the curve. Anyway I save all the foam bits so I could put them back in if it came to this. Check out my clamps:

You should have talked to Jim, Trojanman. He has some things that could have been inflated to fill the whole turtledeck at one time.

I'm not allowed to have a gun, lucky for the SOB that did it.
Sure, but would the blow the whole thing up? The balloon was pretty gentle.

I'm not sure when or how this happened but some CA got loose and ate the foam in one of the "cheek" bits and the belly pan. I also tried to throw a cooler through it in my car. So after talking with Caroline to make sure I could get replacement foam...
Also we decided that the firewall was too compromised because of the massive cutout for the 85 and the smaller mounting pattern of the 100. There was not a lot of material around the new mounting holes. Not sure what else will go but at at least 8 inches of the belly pan is toast. I got a descent chisel and chipped it all out. It was fun to wail on this thing with a hammer. I know I felt like kicking it a few times last year. But its a new year and this is a fresh start.
