Default 50-60% Giants

Hey Guys, I'm thinking about starting production of some 50% or larger planes. Extra, Edge, Yak, ect. I'd like some feedback from you guys. How many of you would be interested in some high quality, USA made, 3D huckin machines of this size? They will be more scale than anything out there, as close to exact as possible. Let me know.... P.S. also include your favorite model design...yak,extra300,extra260,edge540,edge540T,ec t

I could be mistaken but most guys on this sight will favor the way the plane flies over how scale it is. Hence the fact that 98% of the scale planes discussed on this sight are streched to or close to the 10% Imac rule. Perhaps I'm mistaken and others will chime in. The streched planes simply "fly better".

As for which model, I'd suggest the Extra 300 (midwing two-place) or the Yak 54. They seem to be the most favored at the moment.

Wish you best on your new endeavor.

..........Mark

I agree, stay within the 10%....

A couple planes that I want to build are a 55% Giles, and a 50% Yak54.(composite)

Hope this helps a little.....

I'd prefer an Edge 540 or Extra 300. I think scale outlines are great, but you'll need oversize surfaces to get any real 3D performance.

I agree. Oversized control surfaces are a must, I simply wanted to create models more scale than most in regards to the lines and curves. I'v seen some scale planes out there that just look "like models" I am aware that the dimensions need to be tweaked a bit for desirable 3D performance. Thanks for the input guys, keep it comin.

Bill Hempel already sells a 50% Edge 540 and a 50% Extra 260, how much market do you think there is for more of that size planes? Moving from 40% to 50% demands about twice as much engine power, there aren't many of that size engine on the market, and they cost from around $3,000 and up.
Before jumping both feet into an endeavor like that, quite some research should be done.

Bill Hempel is only asking $2,500 for his planes, which is a good deal for how much and good quality you get, but the market is still quite limited. Handling a 50% in your shop, trailer, field is also very different from handling a 40%er.

If you can make a 50%er that with a 200cc max engine (10 lbs) weighs 50 lbs or less, then you may have a market.

Check out
http://www.glhobbies.com/

He's been making 50%+ models for quite some time.
ANd some are 3D-able if you build them light enough.

I'm not sure how big the market is though.
The expense is so high.

But, good luck!
