I guess Im just gonna have to learn the hard way. its true what they say, you get what you pay for! Im in this hobby for the fun of it, I think I have more fun on madens then flying on a regular basis. I get a plane maden it then hang it up... buy a new one, and do the same thing.... I guess I'll never go wrong that way, If i keep doing that I'll never get to the 10 gallon mark

I am with you T3,

I have far more than 10 gallons through my DL and it is going strong. I am not alone with results like this. As far as I am concerned, I got the best from the beginning.

Green, you are full of helpful info dude. Will shut my ears, get the DA50 and blame it on you. The worst that can happen is that hovering won't be that great but still I will have learned about Gas engines, left with a great engine and a popular size of planes to choose from. And beside the DA50 would be a much faster step for me to take, any idea how much weight I would be saving if I convert to CF for the LG and the tube ?
what were the servos you used ? I was thinking about the Hitec 5645 all over and 5955 TG for single rudder setup. May but not sure to give a try to the Hobbico CS-150 and CS-170 Rudder !!!!

DL-50 has a far better midrange on it. FAR better. DA is eventually going to have to lower their price. PA aircraft droped DA and went to DL. This guy was even telling me he had both and in a year the DL required NO maintnence at all. He had to send the DA in 2 times. I like DA's but DL is just as good with some other strong points. Don't deny it until you try it. But if you can afford a DA-50 go ahead, I'm 14 and rather go with somthing cheaper with the same performance. When you get into 100cc, all out DA and 3W, Never go cheap then.

On my extra im using the Hobbicos also same as you are planning. A good idea there. FL Big Mac was telling me at the feild that Hobbico just buys Hitec servos. I havent got them yet but that is what im going with.

Those are good choices. I had a 5645 on ruder and a 5625 everywhere else. On my 50CC yak. Although they worked fine, I was afraid they were heating up too much and I was asking for trouble in the long run. I upgraded to the Tower 1-170 on the rudder (hitec 5995 except no program.) I put 5985 on the elevators. Got them from Servo City last week when they were blowing them out for 62 bucks. I t him got two Hobico cs-150 for the ailerons. I got the 150 for 30 bucks after a tower incentive.

Matt, I will let you know how the 170 and the 150 work out, but I am not thrilled with the 150 when I opened the package and found out it was a Futaba and not a Hitec.

BTW, Matt's plane is a Rich model Extra. A very nice plane. I have the Rich model Yak and no complaints here.

I think a Brillelli 366GT would be a perfect match for a that Lanier. DA-85 will not get the nice throttle response. You will have to mix down the rates in your transmitter. If not you will have a pogo stick on your hands . It's just an over kill. Weight is some what reasonable, but the power... you will be hovering at less than 1/4 throttle and pullout at half. Lol, a estes rocket would be cheaper . I'm just saying he should save that DA-85 for a little and go with with a REASONABLE engine. Plus, the engine box wasnt intended for that much torq. It's just not a good idea...

And c'mon Bone Doc, Give a kid a break about spelling... I may not be the best at spelling, but I make up for it in physics .

Read a review on the DA85 in MAN magazine, this engine would be insane on the Lanier 9HP compared to the 5HP by DA50. That is a wild horse

It's reasonable for the 94" lanier, but for the 87... your insane.

HTSkywalker,

My friend has the 87 Edge with a 3W60, and it checks in at 18lbs with stock tube, and landing gear. No weight saving mods were done. Flys with no wing rock, and powers out hover. I think balance will be an issue with a DA50 or DL50. If you know AeroLou, email him and ask him about the edge.

If it were me, I would look for a good runnign 3W60, or ZDZ60 and have some fun with it.

The Brillelli 366GT would be another possibility, but again with the balance issue... pull-pull would be required... etc..

BTW.. That's my Peakmodels Yak with the DL50 in the video posted in this thread.

Thanks for the info, do you think quality build and reliability wise the 3W can match the DA ? I was thinking in the 60cc or 58cc (EVO in this case) but warnings keep coming when you divert from the DA
