Does anyone have this combo? I am getting ready to finish this up and need good sound advice for installing the baffeling that WORKS. Pics would be nice.
I had this engine in a H9 cap and it would run around 300 degrees tuned somewhat rich. The baffeling was from the openings in the cowl to the front of the cylinder only and the openings were a little too small I think. Any info would be appreciated. BF |

I've always used baffling for engines mounted inside a cowl with good results. The baffling for my 110's is copied from a picture of the Ultimate Chip Hyde used at the last TOC. http://www.scaleaerobatics.com/gallery.aspx Overheating has never been a problem, even with the 100+ temps we have in Las Vegas. I don't know the cylinder temps, but there has never been a problem with the engine losing rpm due to excessive heat. See the atttached pictures, I'm in the process of removing the tuned pipes and reinstalling the canisters, the pipes added too much tail weight. |

Even after building several baffles, it still takes me about 4 - 5 hours to do it right. You need to make sure the baffle fits perfectly against the sides and top of the cowl so air doesn't leak around the baffle instead of going through the fins. I also use silcone to seal the top of the baffle where the ignition wires pass through.

I think I'll make it a little small and then make another one that fits inside of the cowl so that they overlap a little. Should make it a little easier to do. What do you think?

That's what I did around the corners, it looked ugly but most of the baffle is not visible when the cowl is on.

Here are a couple of pics of the way I had my 110 in a comp-arf.
It is hard to tell but there is a piece on the top part of the cowl about mid cylinder and a lower plate right at the lip of the lower cowl which extends to the cylinders, then goes around the sides to the curved back plate. The gray curved piece slides behind the top baffle Very simple but very effective. Oh I always put a lip on the exit areas to create a low pressure to aid in drawing out air. It runs cool as a cucumber Last edited by RTK; 11-14-2007 at 11:10 AM. |

I might as well try to use it. If I can keep it cool I'm sure it will do the job fine. |

Does anyone know what is a SAFE temp for the 110 to run at? Is 315 too hot?
