I love foamies..... there is no butts about that, however, I hate storing the things... At least I used to. For the past few years, my wife has been verrrrrry patient in letting me store my flyable foamies on top of our entertainment center........
![]() Things have changed a bit now and with a little daughter running around the house, I figured I needed to get them out of the living room..... so the guest bedroom became the new Matchless foamy 'aviary'....... However, with a new daughter comes visits from said daughter's grandparent's. They never complained about the stack of foamies sitting on their bed away from home, but moving them over and over again got a bit tedious.... So, it was time to get a bit creative. While cleaning the shop last week (still a disaster area), I found ooodles of scrap carbon. Everything from 1 foot sections of 1/2" carbon tube down to the smallest stuff around. To make the foamy rack, I used a 6" scrap of 1/2" tube and two 4" sections of 1/16" carbon rod. Most of this was cutoffs from kits I packaged back when I sold kits.... I chucked up a drillbit in my drill, clamped the big tube down and drilled two holes into one end of the tube. I drilled them in at a serious angle to allow the two thin carbon rods to enter at an angle and form a "V" that pointed tips up toward the ceiling when the rods were inserted. I also drilled a 1/16" hole in the other end, again angled, so I could put a nail through the rack. The pictures below should help a lot to explain what my gibberish above actually means. If you don't have the carbon tube, you can substitute some 1/2" square hardwood and small dowels, or hardwood and some music wire...... When you mount them to the wall, mount them so the airplane will hang on the right place in the wall. I'd also suggest verrry strongly that you put the racks well above eye level to keep eyes out of the end of the V. Make one for yourself. Put them in your shop.... Put them in your office... Put them wherever you store your foamies.... |

Awsome Idea!! I am hoping to actually have a foamy last long enough this winter to hang it somewhere. I like the idea of one in the office cause I could then fly on my lunch break and not have to worry about carting the plane to and from home.hmm matchless, you may just be the "godfather of innovative foamy stuff" LOL!!

I also hate setting foamies all over the place because they get broken so easily.
I`m very capable of breaking them while flying. LOL DU BRO makes a wing rack part#350($30 approx) that will hold several foamies. I mount it close together and slide the planes upright and nose in. Works great with bipes and monplanes and takes up very little wall space. It is fully adjustable and will support even heavier wood planes. I`ll try to post pics later. Just another idea out there. Nice Idea!
You might be able to make them a bit cheaper/easier. Use a wooden dowel and some piano wire. Could make like 5 for $5. That carbon version is much cooler!

I should have been working on something else this evening.... (Christmas Tree....)
but I decided to give my Extreme Flight Vanquish a storage place..... I scaled up the foamy rack and used a 1x2 along with some 1/4" carbon tube scraps and made a big version. Anchored it in a stud for extra strength.
