Aaron,
Nice bipe! Keep an eye on the top "L" brackets that bolt the top wing on. They have been known to crack and shed a wing no matter what size motor you put on them. If you've never landed a Pitts or an Eagle without your top wing (and possibly the ailerons that usually get ripped out of socket when it happens!), you ain't lived! It's kinda sorta like doing the Bill Hempel one-wing knife edge landing only the balance problem that is associated with losing a top wing makes the old heart rate zip on up there....... Keep ol' Eagle flying!

Great looking Eagle! I have loved the plane ever since I saw the team fly at the Byron bash years ago in Ida Grove (the Joe Nall of an ealier time). I know the Eagle is not a traditional 3D design, but give us an update on what she will do with the Fugi 64.

Aaron,
In early runs the brackets would crack at the 90 degree bend of each of the two "L" brackets. This was most prevalent in the Pitts but some of the Eagles had the problem also. I've had it happen to me twice on my Pitts and seen it once on an Eagle. (Its still flying great but I still check my replacement brackets every flight!) Great Planes took care of the problem by offering up new brackets out of a different metal. The later kits had the problem taken care of but doing a double check is better than getting your plane out of the ground!
Years ago, the brackets were made of soft brass on the same size Pilot kit that these ARFs were derived from. I had the pleasure (?) of losing my top wing and both lower ailerons. This happened at full throttle, straight and level. Let me share with you the exact stall speed of a heavy Pitts with a Sachs 5.8 for power: I believe it was EXACTLY three clicks back on the throttle stick when the most violent snap and spin into the ground occurred. The Eagle you saw on the internet that made it down safely was probably a good bit lighter. Just keep a check on them after every flight. If they have a shiny chrome looking finish to them, I'd be looking to change them out. The duller looking ones were the replacement for them by one of their reps that I met at the 2005 Toledo show. He was real nice about replacing them at no charge and handled the problem in a quick manner. Just in case you're wondering........ Hangar 9 and Sig have handled problems like this in much the same fashion. I'm sure other manufacturers have given poor responses to obviously crappy situations but my luck with all three have been a positive event. Good luck with the Eagle. Now go fly the crud out of it and let us all know how this overpowered beast does!

thanks alot for your insite if i remember right i got this plane in late 03 or early 04 from tower and just got it done a couple of days ago.this is my frist gasser man i love how smooth it is on the ground & in the air does take some speed on final but at 19 lb and a bipe to be exspected though.i think iam going to add smoke? so far its its going to take alot of stick time to learn a hover it has more than enough power trying to fight the torke is a bit tuff.i love the pull out & very strong up lines this bird has it snaps with no bad habbits so far great plane only on trip to field will have more later if weather breaks going to take it out again tomorrow.i live in eugene oregon so never no what were gonna get this time of year will try to get viedo asap.thanks again for looking and all the great info!!!!!!

Great pics. Love that green grass. We were in such a drought this year our field was brown all summer.
