i love my 72" QS Yak so much i am thinking of building a 73" as soon as i can get one. i want to use a gas engine on this one and don't know much about the smaller gassers. any suggestions on engine from 26cc to 30cc as far as power, quality, service and weight.
thanks randy racer |

Moki 24cc or 30cc.
magnificant engines. Runs like a dream and is reliable. www.moki.co.uk P.s. the 24cc has the power of about a 25cc and even more with tuned pipes. Sounds better aswell

Randy,
Quique likes the RCS 1.4 or the small Evolution gas engine I think. The instruction manual will be released by the end of march or early April and you will see the recommended gas engines in it. RTF weight with gas engine shouldn't be more than 12.5 lb. By the way this plane is better than the 72" so if you love your 72" then you've got to go for the 73". There is a waiting list already on this plane. All you need to do give them a call and put your name on the list without paying anything and if you changed your mind down the road there won't be any problems. I owned 2 Nitro Mokis and I loved them, if their gas engines have the same quality of their nitro engines and they are not heavy I don't see why not. Hope this helps, Reza

Quique uses a YS 140 in his instructions I think this plane will fly great with a lightweight gass engine.

You can`t forget about 3W24. It`s a little bit heavy but still a great engine. I have one lying on the shelf and waiting for a plane (also thinking about 73" yak). Do you know if the pefa canister would fit into the fuselage of the yak.

youngflyr, what do you mean by brick? when ralph works on the G26 it comes in at 2.5lbs with elect ign and muffler i think.
stiopa, it would take alot of work to put the pipe in fus. it's not made for it. i think it would add to much weight, this plane needs to stay unde 12lbs to fly nice and i think it's going to be close with agass engine. randy |

Ahhh, to young again..
15 years old and already knows all about engines My "brick" G26 turns a Mejzlik 18-6 at 9000 with a Dale Abell muffler and will pull 17+ lbs on a spring scale at the tail wheel... Come back in a few years when you find out that maybe some of us old people indeed know something.... |

im not doubting anyone of there knowledge however.....wingloading is everything and while the g26 may be 2.5 lbs, a glow engine would be half of that! also i like to learn as much as possible and i use these forums to do so. i know what yall are talking about with having experience i ran into that with a one of my students (im a flight instructer) from my club. one other note i know fairly little about engines i mean i know how they work and stuff but i cant read a plug like yall can. that is why im going to sign up for a small engines course and im in auto tech right now!

Hello, I'm chomping at the bit to buy and try out one of these Brillelli 26cc engines.. They have done a lot of mods to them and these little babys to rock..
http://www.scottellingson.com/brillelli_012.htm There several video's out there of people flying them on Funtana's and such. 90 size planes with 68/73" w/s and doing awesome 3D moves so the power curve must be set up right. I want to try one on the new Funtana X. Weigh in at 2.2 lbs with ign and muffler. I have a G26 on my Scale Cessena 182 with a 95" w/s and its a pig of an engine.. (just my opinion so don't shoot me) Meaning I would never try to use a G26 for a 3D plane.

Looked up the stats on the 73 QS YAk and it's all up weight says 11-12 1/2 lbs and i think that's on the heavy side for a 26cc engine of any maker. Brillelli also makes 40cc - 46cc and a 60cc engine and maybe a 40cc would do better to power that 73 QS YAk.
The Funtana X says it's around 8 - 8 1/2lbs and would'nt go over a 9lb plane to have the unlimited 3D where the pull-out in a hover is great. That's how I like it anyways. BTW I have a 46cc Brillelli and it has 22lbs of thrust with my Xoar 22x8 prop. It's no Da-50 but for about have the price and 90/95% of the DA-50's horsepower its a nice alternative. My 46cc weighs just 3lbs 10oz with the muffler.
