Default AW 29% Edge almost done - UPDATED Flown!

Been working on this one since 2004! Just finished the covering and am waiting on the paint to arrive in the mail. The paint will be PPG from Radio South pre-mixed to match the monokote. My first time using automotive paint so hopefully all will go well. Purchased a SATA minijet to spray the paint.

Power is a DA 50

Great job on the covering. I'm wanting to build a kit but can't decide.

Hey Wayne,

I remember seeing your AW Edge for the first time. Was the single biggest reason I decided on the kit.

Where did I go?

I got away from the hobby for some time mostly because I had no time for it. However, now every Monday I have time to goto the field and fly.

I'll be around more often now! Will update as I paint...

Your post got me searching for a pic of mine..
Found it.

I sold that plane too fast to a guy who was too scared to fly it.
What a waste.

I really enjoyed my Edge. About the only change I made was to convert the wings to root rib bolts rather than the thru the wing style. It was a great flyer. May it rest in pieces.....

I also changed the wing mounting. Using the DA Studs.

I have the pictures of Wayne's Edge stored on my old computer.....

I was just graduating the police academy when I got the kit. Time of transition.... Now I have all the time in the world to get it done.

I actually got back into the hobby because of my lieutenant. He got a kit as a kid and never finished it. Now that he is about to retire he wanted a hobby. He was able to find out I knew how to fly planes and asked me for help. Now we go every Monday.

the AW edge was my 1st gas plane and I really enjoyed it. My only beef was it was not strong at slow knife edge flying. The pic i have displayed is my AW edge which i put close to 400 flights on before giving away the airframe to try the WH extra.

Thats right Steve.
Is he still around flying RC? Does he still have the Edge?

Phil,
Keep the pics coming. I remember watching the build thread and you were doing an amazing job.

I still dont build...
My good friend Walt Beike does my planes now. Do a search here for BBW.
He has built me a 40% Carden 260, a 40% Carden 300 and this winter is going to do a 40% Godfrey 300 for me. Build thread of that will be here on FG.

Almost done can be changed to flown. I took the plane to the field and put three flights on it today. Was everything I was hoping it would be. Only issue was some minor engine tuning, which still needs a little work on the low end. I know several people took some photos of the plane in flight so if I come across them I will post them.

Was a long road learning how the larger scale models are built and what electronics make them tick. Now I need another project.......
