Default AirfoilZ 40" Extra 260

I am putting together the new Extra 260 40" from AirfoilZ and it is very different from their previous designs! Anyone who knows about the AirfoilZ planese know about how they can fly in wind, LOVE SPEED, fly more like a bigger plane because of its airfoiled wing, and how STRONG they are! They are made of a mixture of wood and foam technology, and this one really brings plane really shows it off. All I have done so Far is the fuse and there is NO TWIST at all!!! The wing is made like all previous models, A wooden I BEAM spar that is placed inside a premolded wing and glued in place... VERY STRONG! This 260 looks very promising and I can't wait till I get it in the air.

-This comes directly from the website.. because I can't say it any better than they do

"Airfoilz is proud to offer our new full fuse Extra 260, 40" wingspan aerobatic airplane kit. AirfoilZ designs and produces model aircraft that are FUN to fly with a “best in class” performance! Following the path blazed by our YAK and Edge, the AirfoilZ Extra 260 can fly in 15-20+ MPH winds, and excels in both 3-D and IMAC style flying. The fuselage uses a hybrid construction consisting of a foam skin with a lite-ply crutch assembly. This construction results in a lightweight, extremely RIDGED, no twist design. The wing uses our proven folded depron skin, balsa “I beam” spar, design. The plane comes as a kit with laser cut parts that are designed to interlock together for proper alignment. The fuselage usually takes less than 1 1/2 hours to assemble. The plane uses two servos for the ailerons and one each for the elevator and rudder. New for the Extra 260 is a pull-pull rudder set-up. The Extra 260 kit comes complete with hardware and decals. "

Mikey-nice vid

Jordan - Let us know how it goes together. I have built an Airfoilz Yak and Edge. Was thinking about the new Extra. I checked out the instruction manual and didn't care for the way that the push rods need to be bent to "maintain correct torsion free geometry." Other than that, it looked like it went together nicely.
What brand/size motor, batteries, and speed controller are you using?
Keep us updated on your progress!

I'm going to build 2 of these dudes! I don't care for the bending of the push rods either... I might look for a way around it some how. Other than that the build has been easy and snapped right into place. I also attached a picture of a Color Scheme that I made for this plane. It will be offered for as a Jordan "Woody" King edition color scheme... IMHO.. It looks.. BADASS!!!

One is going to have a POWER set up for insane performance
Scorpion 3014-18 "600 Watt Motor" <--- INSANE!
Scorpion 35 amp ESC
HS 65HB servos
HiTec micro 055 receiver
X-Caliber 2200 3 Cell Lipo
APC 10X5 prop.. but I'm going to try some XOAR's on it also

The other will have my 3D/precision set up
One is going to have a
Scorpion 2015-18 motor
Scorpion 35 amp ESC
HS 65HB servos
HiTec micro 055 receiver
X-Caliber 2200 or 1800 3 Cell Lipo
APC/XOAR 10X5 prop

These decals really doesn't make it look like the skins of this plane is foam. It turned out really neat! I got a notice saying the rest of my materials where sent out.. yeah!!

HI GUYS: My Grandson started out with a used Aifoil-Z he bought at a fly in here in west Michigan. The litle plane is a ball to fly. He only cracked it up a couple of times...but a little Gorilla glue and its good as new. I since have bought a small electric airplane and fly it here in winter and land in the snow. No damage to a 18 0z airplane. Nice looking forum here. Regards Capt,n

What is the ready-to-fly weight?
How does it fly compared to the Yak and Edge?
How much mixing does it need?

Wouldn't you need a 50 amp speed control if you wanted to put 600 watts through that motor?

I am going to get a Airfoil Z airplane kit...just do not know yet which one. My Grandson has the Airfoil Edge and it really takes a beating. Just like a TIMEX....it takes a "licken and keeps on ticken". Best Regards Capt,n

UPDATE...I should have got a Airfoil Extra 260. I bought another neat airplane, but it is too fragile for me to try 3D with it. My Grandson is still flying the pudding out of his and if he bangs it up he can fix it easy with Gorilla Glue! Best Regards Capt,n
