Default Center Hinging Composite-Arf Ailerons

I'm currently center hinging the ailerons on my 3.3 Composite-Arf Yak.
Are you guys interested in seeing how it's done?

stock configuration will yeild about 27-30 degrees of throw and you must use differential of around 10%. Center hinging should yeild around 45-50 degrees and not need near as much differential. At slow speeds this could be very advantages, like in a rolling harrier.

Yes it will 3D but....... I'm always looking to improve the way a plane flys.
That is why on most of my comp-arf planes I install push-pull rudder linkages instead of the stock pull-pull.

I was kidding. The yak 3D's pretty well but like Mark said, it allows more travel for the ailerons.

I don't understand what is wrong with the Pull Pull setup compared to a Push-Pull setup???
And yes.. let us see the center hingeing adventure...
too bad a certain someone who owns a certain world renowned Composite Manufacturing company won't listen to his customers when they are telling him that the skin hinge looks good (and is easy to manufacture) but has limitations.... hint... hint... hint!!!

The first thing I did was to cut the aileron off the $750 wing! Then with a few measurements I made some 4" long by 1/2" thick balsa bars spaced 4" apart. I sanded them to fit. I then roughed up the inner surface and glued them in place with ZAP medium CA. I then trimmed off the ailerons and sanded the surface flat. I then scarfed some 3" wide balsa with 2" wide and glued that to the wing and aileron.

Mark, I'm guessing you won't be using the stock horns since they don't line up over the hingeline with this mod?

You're right, as well as they are way too long. I am going to install 3 servo boxes that run from the bottom skin to the top skin. I will show all the steps to do this

That's awesome. I've always wanted a Comp-ARF but never got one because of the ailerons. I'm looking forward to the rest of the thread, as I may give a Compy a shot when I get a 40% if I can do these aileron mods.
