Christmas is coming and over the next few weeks, FlyingGiants will be taking you through a number of products offered by some of the best manufacturers in the hobby! Starting today, our friend Dave Fox, AKA Macanaw brings us news of some *excellent* new birds from our friends at PAU! The PAU boys are some of the nicest and customer centric guys in the hobby, as well as sponsors of our community. Take it away Dave!
The Edge 540 is back and in a big way! Performance Aircraft Unlimited has announced the release of their 36% and 43% EDGE 540. If you’re looking for a quality precision Edge 540 with unmatched freestyle prowess, look no further. They have spent a year refining this aircraft to bring you an Edge that will outperform anything else on the market. <O </O <O![]() What makes their Edge better? Well for starters, take a look at the wing area and overall weight. With such low wing loading and proven airfoil, this Edge 540 will groove through any aerobatic sequence while still being feather light on the controls for outstanding 3D performance. The vertical stabilizer and rudder design, along with horizontal stabilizer placement, virtually eliminates any roll-pitch coupling. When it comes to high-alpha maneuvers, nothing else even comes close. <O </O![]() PAU also has done much of the time consuming work for you, such as pre-hinged control surfaces, a pre-installed/pre-marked firewall for engine placement, pre-set cowl with internal cowl ring, pre-drilled surfaces so your hardware just drops in; and that is just the start! This Edge 540 also comes with a complete set of high quality hardware. If you are tired of replacing lower quality hardware found in other ARFs, or surprisingly having to purchase the hardware separately, take a look at what’s in our box: Titanium push rods and aluminum horns with dressed steel posts. They’ve also included popular and proven Dubro accessories that work, such as fuel tanks, light w eight wheels, axles, pull-pull set, and heavy-duty ball links. <O </O![]() But they didn’t stop there: they made this Edge visually stunning as well. They used genuine Ultracote covering in deep rich pearl colors, and included a graphics package that complements the colors with style. With our proven customer service and uncompromising quality standards, you can rest assured your purchase will be backed by the best in the industry, and this for an un-beatable pre-order price. <O ![]() <O ![]() ~Dave Fox</O ![]() <O Contributing editor, FlyingGiants.com</O![]() <O ![]() They have already taken some orders for this limited production. Don’t get left behind: reserve yours today! Max,
Do you have any thoughts on how this will work out with a DA-85? |

The plane appears rock solid in the video. Very stable! I too am interested to know how this plane would perform with a single (80-85 cc) or would a twin be better for balancing.

I've been waiting to hear the release on this bad boy. I hope they plan to offer a different color scheme, though. I'm not fond of that much yellow, but that's just me. I like the covering design, just not the yellow. Seems like a top notch bird though and the vid shows it'll get down with the best of em. I might have to get one regardless of the colors. LOOKS LIKE A WINNER FELLAS!!!! Good job and thanks for bringing BIG edges back
. I'm sure we'll be seing several of these next flying season. Someone needs to do a build thread, er, uh, an assembly thread rather since it seems pretty built already. I'd like to see the construction in detail. I'm kind of leary about puting built up wings through more than three blenders.POOOOOFFFF! Good call on deciding to go ahead and pre-hinge everything. I know they were kinda in limbo as to wether or not to have them hinged or do it in house. Does anyone know whos doing the hinges? I also read that they were talking about puting the engine box on in house. Is this going to happen? Just would like to know the details before I bust my rear making the extra green to order one.

Maybe they went with built up wings instead of foam core to save weight?

they plane comes with built up cause its quite a bit lighter than foam core. and they wanted to save as much weight as they can.

The 85 is at the lower end of the engine size's and it will preform great provided you change the stock muffler for at least a pitts style and does not hurt the wallet as much. If your adding smoke and or extra hardware I would go with a 100cc motor. Ken |

We went with built up as they kept a couple of pounds out of the airframe. We also had foam cores done up as well but were satisfied with the strength of the built up wings. We took this aircraft to many fly-ins and the majority of pilots wanted the built up and we listened. We also wanted a true 150cc plane, not 170cc or 200cc. Foam core wings with items as a smoke system installed, starts to push the weight up. This is a good sized plane for a 40% and it's very light on the sticks. You will find you don't need to bang the sticks to get it to perform. I'll try to take some pictures and get them up today of the inside of the 43%. Ken |
