Yea, I am getting the gear also. I wanted to wait until I got a good feel for the plane so I wouldn't end up damaging the CF gear on a bad landing. Thanks again for your help......

RVBlack,
Let us know how that DA 85 works out! I have a 35% with a DA 100 and seems like the 33% with the DA 85 would be a great combo....be very interested in your assessment with the 85! ![]() Keith |

A lighter plane is def where it is at; we all know that. The DA 100 is a bit heavy for this plane I think. The DA-85 should be a perfect match. I am running a ZDZ 80 RV. I also have one on a 31% edge 540T that is setup for sportsman flying and weighs 17.3. The ZDZ 80 RV is more than enough power for this craft. So I would say in the SD yak 54 33% with all the goodies around 16 pounds wouldbe a 3D MONSTER GRRrrrWROWL

Do you guys get a cowl noise like an buzzing empty milk jug on your yaks. I have re-enforced my motorbox to stabilize my da 85 on my sd 33%, but my cowl still makes a empty milk jug sound on mid to upper rpms? Have you come up with anything to dampen the noise???? or is it just a trait of the big open cowl yaks??? thanks 871

I get the same noise on mine, never figured out where it comes from.......
FYI to you guys with this plane. I was flying last weekend and on last flight, I noticed the plane was flying different. So I landed and noticed my motor was loose. Got home and tore it down to find out that the motor box "L" brackets from the kit snapped. I have only 30 flights or so on it so go figure. Only one bracket had broke, but the other was half way split. I ended up just taking all that metal out and using wood and dowel rods to pin everything. Will test it tonight. |

My noise is still there slightly, I think I got rid of most of it by putting in a baffle and like mrhp said, make sure the wood brace in the cowl is glued well. I also put soft velcro strips on both sides of my canopy to make a soft contact in case that makes noise also when vibrating.
So, like I had mentioned before about the firewall, I fired it up last night after completely rebuilding the firewall and ran it for a bit. Wouldn't you know the darn thing broke again!!! So, I guess they use the metal brackets for a reason or my engine is vibrating WAY TO MUCH!! Anyways, I guess I will be buying some metal "L" brackets to put it back to how it was. Do you guys think the cold weather would make the epoxy not set right? I even put triangle stock on it with dowel pins threw both sides. |

It would have to be pretty darn cold to effect the epoxy to not set correctly. Real cold...
I used epoxy the other night in twenty degree weather and had no problems with it. |

Thanks Jason, good to know. The temp was about 30 degrees and I used 20 min epoxy. I am going to use 30 min this time and make some metal brackets since it seemed to work last time, just not strong enough metal I guess.
