15cc Sport Scale ARF

Hangar 9's new F6F Hellcat is a 15cc sized sport scale model ARF that is designed to be light, simple and fun to fly. It's an all wood constructed airframe built from lightweight laser cut parts and covered in genuine UltraCote for a fantastic finish. They wanted to keep the price down and keep the plane simple for the sport pilot so there's no flaps and it comes with standard fixed landing gear, although you can add drop in electric retracts if you like.

The Hellcat can be outfitted with either an electric power system or a 15cc gas engine like the Evolution 15GX. The fuselage has a large top hatch that makes it easy to get inside the plane and work on as well as access to the batteries for electric powered models. The wing is a two piece plug in design that features tool-free assembly to make life easier putting it together at the field. It's a great looking sport scale model at a very attractive price of $299. Horizon is taking pre-orders currently with expected delivery coming up in mid July.

I assume the lack of flaps saves weight, cost and it probably doesn't need them?

Well, i know it saves weight and cost

This may sound dumb but if you have lost a Carbon Z T-28 but all electronics survived, would they swap over? Both are .60 sized 6S models

You would need to shorten the bolt on motor box for your longer bl50. If the carbon Z has full size servos I think you could do it. This bird would be a little heavier but might do ok with that power system

The F6F Hellcat 15cc Sport Scale ARF is designed so that the Evolution® 15GX, 15cc gas engine, Saito FG-21B gas four-stroke or the E-flite® electric Power 60B brushless outrunner bolt straight in. All hardware for each power system option is included along with an electric motor mount so you can install the assembly right away and get into the air faster. The Hangar 9 F6F Hellcat 15cc ARF is also the perfect replacement airframe for the stock motor, ESC, and recommended flight battery used in the giant E-flite® Carbon-Z® T-28.

When I was told this plane was coming out I was told that it is exactly matched to that power system and anyone that had a retired T28 could move everything over

Not dumb at all. We have actually done it and performed a bunch of testing with the T-28 internals. In fact. all of the electric footage in the product video is made using a Hellcat with T-28 gear.
This is part of the "Recycle" scheme that I have been working on for some months now.
I got to thinking of all the Carbon Z planes we ( HH ) have sold over the years. I know that even with the best will in the world. Foam does not last forever, and sometimes " Things Happen" that mean foam last for a lot less than forever. In my mind, there must be tons of spares draws in workshops out there filled with perfectly usable electronics just doing nothing??? So I started testing!
So far. I have equipped the Hellcat with all of the internals ( Prop nut, Spinner, Speed controller, servos , extension leads.... Even the receiver ( Have to be careful to get the correct orientation ) from a downed T-28.
I have also done the same to a Ultra Stick 10cc using a Carbon Z Cessna 150 and T-28 internals.
I am delighted with the way its worked out. The performance is on par.... if not better than with the recommended electric power set up!
There is a little bit of thought that has to go into it. Things like the servos being smaller than standard means you have to put spacers in. But that's an hours worth of easy work tops. Also the receiver and servo orientation is important if you want to use the coded receivers with AS3X, but again. That takes but just a moment of thought and planning.

I had actually produced some videos explaining this and showing the results, but as yet nothing has been done with them. Which is a shame, because I do believe that this Recycle scheme has potential. It is something that I will be following up with more with on future releases for Hangar 9. I hate waste, especially when it comes to decent RC equipment!
