The service and support from E.F. alone is worth the extra money, plus the plane is huge, larger than any other 100cc out there, and the whole package is awesome, nothing compares. The plane will be worth whatever the price is.

Will this servo be alright there or should I relocate the servo?
Hi FH, You could put a small plywood barrier, shaped like a U around the servo to protect it from the heat and leave the servo where you have it.

Rennie

Looks like most of the electronics in the servo are above the pipes away from the heat.
Whats exposed to the heat is the servo arm are gears. I would use a metal geared servo..

The 5985MG operating temperature is spec'd at -4 F to +140 F. Much better for heat that 6975, which is only spec's at -46F to +86F...

I did some small modifications and even though it took a little longer, the extra effort was worth it. Now that my 50mm drop headers came in I can lay-out the tuned pipes, open up the cannister bays, and make the tuned pipe mount. I made the cannister bays so that the pipes have to slide in through the front of the tuned pipe tunnel. The EF 110" Yak pipe tunnel is long and did not have to use the whole length, so I blocked off the unused part with a piece of balsa.

I know that these carbon fiber pipes do not dissapate heat very well, so like in my 88' Yak, So I stripped off the covering carefully and some vent holes out of balsa wood. Sanded the whole thing smooth and recovered it. It really dresses up the bottom, and is keeps plenty of air moving through.
Rennie - can you describe a bit more about the CF pipe not doing well with heat? Also, did you just custom fabricate your pipe mount? or did you make it from plans or a kit?

Let me tell you one thing, even if its a $1200 model, according to Chris H., it includeds slick airfoiled and very strong CF landing gear, It will include pilot, dash panel, cockpit floor, all the hardware needed, including Pro-LInks, ball links, pull-pull cables, scale goodies like wheel spads, and LG fairings. So far I am about 75% complete and hope to maiden within two weeks. So far the fuse weight feels the same as my 102" QQ Yak, and the QQ weighs just 26.5 lbs. The EF 110" Yak Flying chracteristics should be as good or better that the 88" little brother, but presents like a 40% on a 100cc budget. I CAN"T WAIT TO FLY IT!
Thanks Rennie! IMO, if it was $1400, it would be a good deal.

I heard it's gonna be around $1050.00. If that's true it's an awesome deal considering what you get.

You are right Carlos, I will go witha metal geared Servo, Maybe a Hitec Mighty Mini.
The HS 6975 I had in stock. I also havea HS5945MG in stock. A little overkill but should do nicely!

Leave the hole for servo body, mount the servo in engine box and let arm stick through. No heat problem from header.

FH,
FWIW, I have been installing the throttle and choke servos on the bottom of the motor box in my last 5 35% planes. This is with Futaba 9202's (sorry to admit) that have nylon gears. Probably over 500 flights total, never had a problem. However, I do use standard mufflers that are further from the servos than headers for pipes/cans would be.
Thanks for the great build thread.

Here is my own take on this Carbon Fiber Pipe thing, so if anybody out there has more info, please chime in. Per Ed Skopera, the manufacturer, the CF resin has a max temp range of 500 deg before it starts to break down. The normal operating range is around 400 degress. So in my limited not-so-infinite wisdom, the CF does not dissapate heat as well as aluminum, and will require more external air flowing around them to keep the temps down. Especially here in FLA summers. Plus I accidentally touched the CF pipe shortly after a flight, showing a fellow pilot the pipe, and burnt my !*%@ finger . real life experience..........well, it's for the living!?

AS for the pipe mount, it is an Flyin Hawaiian custom fabricated master piece!

Okay its nite nite time.........

I am planning on running a 2500 4.8v NMH batt back on ignition, no switch or regulator, just the Smart-Fly cut-off switch. When I am done flying, I will just disconnect the mini Deans connector. I feel that this will get me through 5-6 flights, and a simple and light reliable set-up. My question is............

1) How many Flights can I get with a DA100 w/ a avg flight time 12 minutes?

2) Is there any difference between 4.8v and 6v?

3) any thoughts on my set-up?

Thanks for your input.

On 2500Mah, 8/9 flights should be possible....

If the ignition can not handle 6V, don't do it, they don't like that very much

Greetz.
