Like everyone says it is a disease........I have a 40% 330 that I bought used, and I am working on a 35% 330 I started before I bought the flyer. I would say if you are going to build one, and funds and transportation are not an issue, I would build a 40%. They fly unbelievable, everyone I let fly it says it is like cheating at IMAC. I also agree with the others that say to buy a flyer and build at your leisure, also you will have as much money or more-building as you would buying a finished flying one. Here are a couple of pictures of the 35%.

I built the 35% Extra about 7 years ago - if you have only basic tools it might be a challenge. You'll need a big flat building board (not a table) that you can put a lot of weight on when you sheet the wings. You'll also need a bandsaw to cut out the control surfaces. Cardens start as a "box of lumber" and you need to be on your game to build one right.

I agree with what everyone has said. I have had and still have more than I like to admit to and can honestly say that Carden is all I have flown for a long time. Great planes and you could get good used ones as well.

I built Cardens with Terry Boston and really enjoyed the experience. He is a master and makes stuff look way too easy. Having a little experience working with someone really helps with these kits. There is a lot to know and even more little tricks to make it easier to build and turn out light, straight and strong. Any chance you can team up with someone to help get you going? If not, thats ok, just plan on a little head scratching time.

I am not knocking the other kits, but the Cardens are awesome. Very true flying planes and they last quite a while. Something to be proud of.

My 02Cents.

I have been spoiled with the arfs and she has also but there's still nothing like building it yourself and watching it fly for the first time! My whole thing is that it seems like the Cardens hold up way beyond the life span of the arfs (forbidding a crash) even then the Carden is most of the time repairable. My last arf exploded when it hit the ground and it wasn't really that bad of a crash, I just picked up the pieces on walked to the nearest dumpster after taking out the componets. Anyone else that wants to chime in I would greatly appreciate it.

I built my first Carden 30% Cap in 1998. Built a 40% Cap in 99, and have not looked back. I still have both Caps, a 330 and a 260. You cant go wrong, they fly great and last forever! Some pics of the Extras.

FYI- I built the first Cap in a tiny apartment while going to school. You just have to manage your space well!

You cant go wrong. The first giant scale plane I ever built was a Carden 330. I started out building on a small screened porch and a table that I built. You should not have any problems and if you do theres a bunch of people here to help you out. Good luck with your build.

Thanks guys for all the response and encourgement. I will get one of these kits sometime after the first of the year. We are moving into a new home right after Christmas and must get settled in there first. I'm just trying to decide which one to go with the 330,260 or the Yak 54. I really like the looks of the 330.
