Default Extra 260 build with LJJ CNC Parts.

All,

I am happy to report I have received the first part of an order I placed with LJJ for CNC parts. The quality of the wood and laser cutting is superb. I will be documenting my building experience with LJJ's parts.
LJJ is putting together some documentation for proper assembly of the CNC parts. I will not start any assembly till I have that document. Here are some pictures of the parts I received today. I have more parts on the way! I will post pictures of the other parts when I receive them.

Here is a picture of the engine box parts assembled without any glue. The parts fit together perfectly. The frame is surprisingly rigid even without glue!

Bob,

Did you send in your wood parts from your Kit and Levi cuts them? or you tell Levi which Carden Plane you have and he cuts new parts to replace your Kit parts?

please explain, looks great!

I don't know if Levi is offering parts for planes other than the Extra 260. Levi should be contacted with any questions you have regarding upgraded CNC parts.

Thanks-
Bob

Box looks awsome! I have a small idea how much work that thing involves.
Good Luck

I wasn't sure about the rules for links to other websites, so I deleted it. I also don't want to give the impression that I am promoting someone or sponsored by anyone - I am not.

That's it, plain and simple.

I am sure you can find any web site you need with a little searching.

Hi Bob,

good to see the parts made the coast to coast trip without damage. I was worried about some of the small tabs that extend on the Motor box top plate.

Answering Q's---
You don't need to send your parts over... too much hassle with shipping and alignment for cutting. I posted some details and pictures at www.levijordan.com Trying to find time between Christmas Shopping trips, and office party's to put the finishing text on the build guide.

Parts are for the 330/260/300 Midwing in 40% scale. If someone wants to prototype the parts for the 43% 260/300 let me know when your kit arrives!

Chris and I do the cutting ourselves... he CNCL and I CNCR. So if you've got some feedback and input, please let us know. One set sent out was for a 300 Midwing, but 3W170 power, so we changed a few parts to fit that motor/mounting pattern and Pefa cans... I do this for fun, so if you've got a challenge or need something different, let me know.

Thanks!

Levi

I've finished the build guide... I've got some grammatical errors to correct in it still, so be nice about my spelling. Some good info about glue tests and more details on the how the whole thing fits together.

Thanks Ward.... I'll be adding more details to it and replacing some pics with better ones.

Update: Over Christmas break we're finishing CAD work on the full set of parts for 35% 260/330! We got a custom request for this, so it's gonna be available after the first for anyone else who's got a Carden 35%'r on the shelf or in the works.

I have started some actual glueing using the method described in the assembly guide.

I have a flat build surface with a centerline drawn down the middle. There are small centerline nubs on the motorbox top so you can align everything perfectly.

I used pushpins here to keep all the various parts of the motorbox top perfectly flat to the table.

I will post more as I have time.

Page 9, item 11 states to glue in 3/8" square stock from the rear brace, through the front brace all the way up to F1. You need to temporarily fit in the hardwood for the firewall and run the 3/8" stock up to there, not all the way to F1. Also, I was missing slots on F4 for the rear tabs of the gusset braces for the outer wing support. I just removed the tabs and glued it into place. I notified Levi of the lack of slot in F4.

Next I will be installing the hardwood for the landing gear mount and firewall.

I am REALLY liking this alot! For me, it is alot of fun.

Is it the same motor box for the 35% Edge?
