Default Anyone willing to host us?

Hello out there...

Me and a few guys from my club are looking to head south in either the beginning of feb. or mar. to put in a lot of imac practice for a weekend somewhere warm enough to make it somewhat enjoyable. We are looking to travel no more than 10-12 hours from minneapolis, and were hoping to find a club willing to host us for a day or two. As of right now their are only a few of us discussing it, but it could be more. Anyone out there have a nice site willing to provide us northerners some hospitality?

We were thinking in the missouri area, but it wouldn't matter as long as we could expect somewhat warmer weather around those times. 50 degrees or warmer would be great .

Thanks,
Mike Flander

Can't say much for Feb. here, but March may work. I'm in Bowling Green, KY. Just follow I-65 so. I'd make it mid March. See what we have to offer at Skymacrc.com. 4 miles off of the interstate with motels only 1 mile away. Dennis

Mapquest says...... : 13 hours, 27 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 842.50 miles

Not bad, but might be a little far. We'll keep you in mind, and thanks for the offer!!!!!!!! The problem is, we will leave here around noon on friday, and would want to get into town no later then midnight so we can get some sleep and get ready for a heavy day of flying on saturday. We would want to leave either saturday night or sunday morning so we could be home for dinner on sunday. If we start making 14 hour plus drive times, it gets to be difficult to do this.

You need to start from somewhere else or drive faster to get to warm weather in 10 hours in Feb. March from Minneapolis. Missouri is still pretty cold then. Texas is nice though.

It's interesting, I drive from Dallas to Toledo every year about April 1 for the Toledo show. At that time all the trees in Nort Texas have budded out and are almost in full bloom. As I go north I notice the stages of the trees changes about every hour of driving. There's even a big difference at Oklahoma City which is just 3 hours north.

By the time we get to St. Louis it's still winter, and in Ohio it's still seriously cold and icky. One year I forgot to bring a jacket because the weather was so nice at home, I had to stop in Joplin Mo. to buy a coat so I could get out of the car to put gas in.

On the way back we can see things change back to summer as we go south again.

Remember though, that we are much colder up here. By the time Feb. rolls around, 30 degrees feels like t-shirt weather .

We are willing to drive as far as needed, but the shorter the better

St.George, Utah is nice and warm in the months of Feb and March. Come on down and make yourselves at home at our flying site with extra long and wide paved runway, plenty of camping or rv space. Best yet, no one around to bother you, no obstacles or trees, and lots of sunshine. Not far from stores, hotels, etc, but far enough away you cant hear or see anyone except other flyers. Right in the heart of Red Rock country. Breath taking views from all sides. Best of all, lots of freindly people to schmooze with. We are always honored to have out of towners.

Lol. I wish it were that simple . KY and Oklahoma city are the front runners right now, so don't count us out. We have some time between now and then .

I'm considering doing this same exact thing. Texas is prolly the best straight shot south. My sister lives 45 min south of Fort Worth and it's never colder than 60 degrees for very long. Maybe I'll go down there.

Ya, I have a new 75cc plane I simply can not wait until april or so to fly. It must fly sooner, and I don't want to break in a new engine in the cold up here .

You might want to try somewhere a little more south than Misery er i mean Missouri
in February. you could expect up to the 30's for temps.....but its not very consistent. for example a few days ago it was cold as and we got 8 inches of snow and today its freaking 55 degrees and the ground is like a boggy marsh.

You are more than welcome to come down to Tulsa, The weather is hit and miss that time of year though. May be 10' or 70' just depends. We are having an IMAC contest April 12/13 and there will be about 6 of us practicing pretty heavy every weekend that is flyable.
