35% weight

What is an acceptable weight range for a 35% 3D plane ? Ill be getting my first 100cc plane and was looking for an idea of a target weight--or better yet too much weight.

27lbs is ideal unless you can get it lighter. My yak is around 28( a little over I think) and it pulls out of a hover pretty good. I'd say 30 lbs will start to push it and make it a little difficult to just power out of high alpha stuff. You would probably have to fly it out of hovers. If you keep it under 29 lbs you'll be fine. I've never actually flown a 35% that weighed more than mine so I can't be sure exactly how it will feel. Everyone else that I know that has let me fly theirs was more in the 25-27 lb range.

The 110" EF YAK is the biggest 100cc that I know of. It may come out a little heavier than the average, but it also has a bigger wing so it should fly light at the heavier weight. This should be a great plane.

I just read that Chris's prototype weighed in at 28 lbs with a DA100 and MTS Cans..Im not gonna use any cans so I should be lighter than that.

PR- - Ponder The Godfather's position about weight (in general) :

"The target is to get the right wing loading. Like you say if the airplane is too light will do some things but not other and same if it is too heavy. I do not use a rule I base my decisions on my experience of previous designs and power plant to use. I found that I can do more variarity of 3D maneuver if I have an airplane that is slightly heavier wing loading and a lot of power than an other airplane that is very light wing loading a shorter in power. Even a combination of very light wing loading and a lot of power might not do as much as a bit heavier wing loading airplane. An other factor to consider is the wind that can play an important role on the overall performance. When I design an airplane I always think in the wind. Most of the time we fly with some kind of wind or even medium to strong winds. Our average of wind is more than calm so it is important to have an airplane that can perform well with wind. Please do not get me wrong I am not saying that a 2,000 square in. and 30 lbs airplane will fly better than a 25lbs at same area but probably same airplane at 22 lbs my not do as well at the overall spectrum of the 3D aerobatic.
