Default What Heli to get........

well the bug is bitting harder and harder every time i fly my electric,, so this spring ( maybe sooner) i would like to get a 30 size heli,, before you say go to a 50.. i know there better,, but parts cost more and set up cost more.. and the 30 isnt much smaller.. so far im bouncing between the raptor 30v2 and the venture cp.. i do have a interest in doing scale later on so im leaning toward the venture for the low parts and no swing arm.. any tips and thoughts would be great, this is just the start hehe

If you're possibly considering electrics, look at the new Trex 500.

I have a Rapter 30 part V1 and part V2. It flies OK but is low on power. The good side of this is that it is pretty easy to fly, will loop, roll, stall turn, fly inverted, etc. but it doesn't get in a hurry doing it. I enjoy mine and fly it as much as my Trex 600 CF electric. I have a Trex 450 also, but since I got the 600 it collects dust. I would consider a Raptor 50 to start. The initial cost will be a little higher, but parts cost will be about the same as an R30. Many of the parts are the same. The performance will be much improved for future growth of your skill. If you get an R30 with a TT engine, throw away the stock muffler and get an aftermarket from Heliproz. It will run 500% better.

im looking at the venture 50 right now, not a bad way to go,, i really like the fact theres millions of upgrades for the raptors.. heliproz has a combo withthe os 37 and muffler,, i think i would go that route if any, i want an OS.. and the parts for the raptor seem a bit more availible. the 50 route would be nice.. and still considering.. whats the take on the helimax kenitic 50, a guy here has one and seems to fly well,

get a 90 size raptor. if you really want a heli. or if you want a little tiny eitie bitie electric then radio shack has a great one for ya haha or hey why not bling out a trex for a few thousand make shure it has all purple parts i know how much you like those purple parts mike hahahahah. no really dude get a venture or any good name brand 50 size. you will very happy with about any 50 size on the market today. they will do anything any other heli can do. just ask curtis youngblood. oh i forgot the raptors have a tumor on the front,,, get a airskipper thats what i would get. but you cant go wrong with any of the JR helis or x-cell is the best in my book anyday

Go for the 50...

Really...I read your post... and most of the parts are interchangable so it really isn't that much more...
the 30 is nice... but you will notice the weaknesses the first time you do a flip... it just bogs too much..
The only real differences up to the 50 are bigger blades and a longer boom (for the most part)
and there is a world of difference.....

now the money jump up to a 90 IS big, but a 30 and 50 are really quite close....

I started with a Raptor 30V2 that I picked up on e-bay to trash around. It was a good beater and cheap to fix. Then went to a Raptor 50V2 from Heli Proz with the new OS 50 and it has been great. I know that all JE Helis fly very well. If I had to choose again I would go with either a Raptor or a JR.

Get a TREX600nitro,, the parts are cheap ,, 2 tail booms for 11 dollars,, etc, etc,, and they are stupid smooth, I sold my raptor 50 to get the 600 and there is NO comparison,, ,and really, don't get a 30, I bought a raptor 30 and had to upgrade in 3 weeks due to lack of power etc,,

hey dont laugh they make one. at the heli flyin in phoenix in 1999 i saw a yahmaha that had a about a 12 or 14 foot rotor span. it was using a motorcycle motor for power if i remember correct. the thing was huge. it was being offer for spraying crops. they dont make a DA big enough to power that thing. iam shure someone will chime in and remember more than me about it. it was flown as a demo. i will see if i can find some info on it.

Yep.. ITs a Yamaha powered 250 CC MC engine w/ water cooling. Designed to be autonomous, and do high risks ops like spraying in tight areas, surveillance, or photo work. Its called the Yamaha R MAX

Trust me, stay with a 50 size. 30 size is fun for bout 5 minutes, once you start getting into some aerobatics of more than loops and rolls, you'll want the power of a 50. I have a Raptor 50 that will have a scale body on it, once I repair it. My 3D ships are my TREX's. A great machine, cant wait until the TREX 700 comes out

Yep...thats what I was saying and I agree... the 30 is fine... until you try to actually "fly" the heli
