Default Quique's 69" yak 54 with mvvs 26cc gas engine

Hello,

I've been searching and looking on this forum for quite a while now.
it's really nice out here.

but here's the first question of me.

I'm currently looking for a new aerobatics plane in the 26cc gas range.

I looked at the site of Quique and saw the movie of the 73" yak with the 26cc gas engine.
But I found didn't had enough power.

So I'm wondering if it would be possible to put a 26cc gas engine in the 69".
or would it get a to high wing loading and a bad cg?

kind regards remie

It is possible. But the 73" would work just fine. I've got a 73" wild hare with a Saito 125 and it can do what every you want at barely above idle. But anyway a 26 would be fine. If you want more info on the 73" Wild Hare go to the website.

If you put a pipe on that mvvs you would be a lot better off.

The other option the ExtremeFlight 74" Yak. It's almost the same size but has more wing area.

You are loosing a lot of wing area to jump back to the 69"

Remie,
If you watched the video on Quique's site then you heard what he said about the motor. It had the stock exhaust and was hovering only a couple clicks away from full throttle. If you're just flying around it will be ok but if you want any kind of performance you have to put a tuned pipe on it. The 69" er wasn't designed for the vibration ov a gas motor so I don't think it's a good idea. The extra weight it would add would mess up the loading and it wouldn't fly as well anyway. You should contact Reza on the QQ Aircraft support forum and talk to him for more information.

kind regards remie

well i couldnt find anywhere more info about this combo so after some thoughts i built it miself...
So here it is: Quique Somenzini Yak 54 69" wingspan with MVVS (evo) 26cc engine, lipo and hitec 5985 all around, 180ml (6.0 oz) gas tank, 18x8 miejlik prop - weight 4.3kg RTF and flight time ~12-14 minutes.

No extra reinforcements were made, the plane is just a bit nose heavy and i still have to work on the expos. The torque is quite high on hovers.

This is my third flight with it and as you can see, a bit shy

What do you guys think?

How do you guys get the balance right on your 69" QQ Yak? I have one with an O.S 120 4 stroke and i am pretty nose heavy even with the battery mounted back as far as I can reach. Any suggestions besides add tail weight? I really hate adding weight to an airplane so I would like to avoid that if at all possible.

thanks,

Neil

Well on my plane, both lipo batteries are behind the canopy, the ignition and tank are dead on the CG and its only a bit nose heavy. Also my tank is only 180ml (6oz) as the gasser's fuel consumtion is really low.

Look like you have plenty of power to spare on those hovers, impressive. what kind of rpms does it swing that 18x8?

About 7200-7500 with a pitts muffler mounted horizontally (i know its weird but i didnt want to cut too much the cowl to mount the engine horizontally).
The torque is indeed a lot so i'm considering switching from the carbon prop to a plastic APC 18x8 or even a wide wood 18x6/18x8.

Here are some pics.

the 26 is about the same weight as the os160. RTF weight is less then the 160. 8 to 10 oz of gas is all you need. put the tuned pipe on it and you will gain 15 to 20% more power. mine swings a 18x8 in the mid 9k's

Well i wont put a tuned pipe on it because the power is more than enough already (check the movie). I actually want to lower its torque by lowering the propeller step (at least i think that will lower it).

Finnaly i managed to control the beast! Here is my very first on the deck hover with this setup...

These hovers are made with a 18x8 miejlik carbon prop... i think i could recover it better from torque with the 18x8 metts wooden one..

What do you guys think? I'm on the right path to 3D flying?

Kind regards,
Calin
