Default 1/5 scale Piper Build

Ok, well I was in the hobby shop today and saw a nice Piper kit. So come to find out it was a Great Planes Piper 40 kit. Basicly I walked in to buy a little heli, and left with a 76" Piper and an OS LA.46. I plan to do this up in a Red/White or a Red/Black scheme. The normal Yellow/Black gets boring and I saw a nice Red one a while ago at an airshow and loved it. Right now I'm at my grandma's so I can't get any pictures, or start. But when I get home I'll break out the camera.

So, I started the build. Im using a spektrum ar7000, an OS LA .46, and some Hitecs (didn't decide which yet). I'm doing it up in red Econokote (I'm 15 and only work in the summer ) with either white or black accents/numbers.

ahh the fun of building,, one tip id recommend, dont sand the out side edges of the fins untell you get done,, this way if you bump it during the build you dont dent the finsihed part,, building is fun, just takes time that i dont have much of anymore.. i wish i had ca when i was building free flight haha, goes so much faster.

Well, I worked till' 3am. I am tired but happy . I got a good amount done including the vert. fin and most of the horz. fin and elevators. All it needs is to be braced and I can go find a table big enough to start the wings on . I still got an entire box of balsa, that never seems to even look like its going away .

I plan to do it up like this, but maybe just the white numbers and Piper stripe. Although, it would look great with the white tips and elevator, with the strips. I haven't really decided yet.

Got even more done! Now I'm on the wing, which I need a bigger table for, so I'm borrowing one from my Aunt. I'm getting it later so I'll post what I get done of the wing by tonight.

Well, I got ALOT more done, and a little painting too . I guess I pressed a little too hard with the razor, and it slipped off the wood and cut me. It didn't hurt, plus less painting red to do . I also got the left wing almost done. This thing is by far the biggest plane I've ever had or built!!!!

Ok, I finished up the left wing up to the point where you glue the two halves together. Now I've got the right about half way done. I also glued some balsa sheet over where the brass wire joins the elevator halves and sanded it smooth, just to help clean up the looks.
