Here is a few pics of mine. I am almost to the covering stage of my Sig 1/5 Scale Cub. Covering will be my first attempt at cloth, in this case Solartex + Paint.
Added aluminum struts vs the stock wood ones. Also added Robart Cub Gear instead of wire gear. SunDevilPilot |

Where oh where did you get those blinging aluminum struts???? My 1/5 sig is in the mail and is just calling for some of those struts... I probably won't even paint them. Might even polish them!! ![]() I've got a TT.75 4 stroke thats going to go in the clipped wing beast. What kind of weight is your bare airframe at? Mud |

Mud Marine,
The struts were made from K&S Aluminum (Streamline). The couplers are from made from Brass, also K&S. Took a weekend to put it all together. As far as the aluminum goes I went with 3/4" up front and 5/8" in the rear. Do a search on Tower for "Streamline Tube" and you will find the stuff. SunDevilPilot

Looking good so far 3Disaster! I had one of these for a few years too, finished as an L-4 Grasshopper in Olive Drab and D-Day stripes. It also had an OS .46 LA with a 12 x 6, and even though people say the LA's are underpowered, it was more than enough for my Cub! I could easily get 20-25 min of flying on one tank. Stalled on landing on a very windy day, and never rebuilt it.

Get it done, dude. Here are a couple pictures of mine, also a GP 40 size kit with the long wing, along with a pic of me and JohnVH representing the Kub Klub. I swear we have more fun flying these things together than our aerobatic planes. They are always good for a laugh.

Great work 3Disaster,
It is fanstastic to see young blokes like yourself still interested in kit building. Nothing like the smell of Balsa, Ply and glue or cyno stuck to your fingers. I recently got my hands on an old aussie sailplane kit. Apparently they don't make these anymore. Only a 2.5m wingspan but should be nice. Going to jazz it up with some ailerons and an elecy motor with folding prop just for ease of launching. Best of luck with your cub! - Can't wait to see the finished pics!!

I covered the wings for my cub this weekend. The solartex goes on easily and makes compound curves without issue. Next up, cover the fuse. Then onto paint. Ordered some paint from Nelson Hobbies. Hopefully it goes smoothly.
Also got the motor mounted. Every year there is a giant electric fly in at my club, Arizona Model Aviators, and I decided I needed at least one electric plane so I can join in the fun. Had to make a mount to go around the exhisting blind nuts installed in the firewall, which were epoxied in and not work attempting removal. Motor mount has 2.5 degrees of right thrust and 1.5 degrees of down thrust built in. Mounted offset on the firewall to compensate. SunDevilPilot
