Default DA 50 tuned pipe question/help

Okay........I pulled my DA-50 from EF Yak and it was running like a top on a stock muffler. I put it in an EF Extra with a tuned pipe (MTW RE2).

I started it today for the first time and let it idle for about 4 minutes per DA's instructions to seat the teflon coupler between the header and pipe. All was well. I loaded the plane up and headed for the field. When I got to the field the engine would not run more than a couple of seconds at a time and then would die I went all around with the needles trying to get it to run. I got it to run up a little one time but it had no top end (bogging very bad and would not come up) When I transitioned back to the low end it ran until I shut it off to lean the top end. I tried to reset both needles to 1.5 turns out and put a new plug in it with no with no results. When I got home I took the regulator switch and Lion battery out of the picture and bypassed them by hooking a NiMh battery straight to the ignition to make sure it was not any of that. It would hit on choke just like normal. I would turn the choke off and it would start and run for a burst and shut off. The weird thing about the whole thing was sometimes it would start and run for a second or two and then almost like backfire and then run backward.

Gap between header and pipe was set at 1/8th inch per Bill at DA.

Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks

most likely too much prop load for the canister setup-
if you have a 22x8 such as the MTW try that and fer goodness sake don't over lean the top end!!

Just a note, make sure that it is not actually something else like your gas/tank/fuel lines.....

Dick I am running a Vess 23A and a buddy of mine is runnung the same setup tuned pipe setup and gettung 7500 rpms. The reason that I reset the needles to 1.5 turns is that is where they were set on my other plane that was tached at 7070 rpms then backed off to 6920. I dont think that the top end was to lean.

yufasa I checked every fuel line on this thing and then changed them out just to make sure I didnt have a problem with any of that.

Guys thanks for all of you help I really appreciate it. It is great to hear thing that I might have not thought of. I have never had a DA act like this before.

UPDATE: After trying eveything that I could think of on Monday 12-31 I called DA and spoke with Jeff. We narrowed it down to a bad ignition. I am pretty sure that I caused the whole problem.
When the engine was in my Yak the ground on the plug wire had been rubbed by the cowl. It looks like my plug wire was partially grounding out. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo with that note it is time for the engine to take a trip back to the mother land for a check up. Jeff told me to send the engine and ignition back and they would double check everything and make sure it was the ignition and get me fixed up.
DA service is the best.

Now if you lived in the northern parts it would not have hurt as much. 12" snow and wind is howling......
