Is it possible to charge a battery on the Cellpro without the center balance tap (i.e. connected only to the positive and negative battery leads, without the balance tap)?

I think this is what he is trying to say.

If that's what he's asking; "can you charge using a Cellpro without the balance lead?" then the answer is no.

If the question is can the A123/VPX's be charged without balancing them, then the answer is yes if you have a charger capable of doing it, i.e. one that recognizes the lower voltages seen with these cells vs. Li-Ion or Li-Po's.

Hi Guys,

I really like the A123 threads and reads. I'm about 2-3 weeks away from purchasing new batteries for my 38% project. Is there somone selling these as a ready to use R/C unit yet?
Thanks,
Jim W.

Well I can think of a few; WildHare, Sin City Jets and AirWild all have ready to go packs. IIRC, WH and Sin City will put 'em together with what ever output/charge lead configuration you want. Not sure about AW since they sell the A123 Racing branded pack.

There are probably a number of other places, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.

Here is what you need...takes about 2 minutes to pull it apart. It already has the solder bar on it...Just solder on your balancing taps and deans connectors...

The diagram shows a stick pack...and the VPS pack flat...the 2 batteries are side by side. I like that flat pack better..but the wiring diagram still applies.

I thought the 2300mah, 36V packs were easy when i made some 6S packs for my leccy planes. Got three VPX packs the other day. These packs are even easier, like they were made for us. I cant take any picks of the packs I made, but I took this one when I got them. To get this just pop two tabs and make three cuts.

here is a pack of four (series connection CHARGING)
If one wanted to , two two cell power feeds could be attached but NOT charged with power feeds attached -In this case th pack powers a 22 oz foamie which goes like stink.
Where possible, these and 2300 ma A123 have replaced all other types of cell chemistry, I once used

Jim,

You should support the sponsors of this site or your LHS for these batteries.

However, if you want to make your own I accidentally purchased too many and will give you a good deal on bare cells (in 2-cell groupings). PM me if interested.

And if you want to buy them already made up, I accidentally made a few batteries too many and will give you a good deal on ready to fly packs.

I can only assume Brett considers me a sponsor of the site

In as much as I try to offer as much help as I can, with what little knowledge I have. I have answered many questions here, from PM's, and via my phone from anyone just looking for info.

Now, I'm not saying all my answers were right, but I believed them to be true

Sin City Jets have taken alot of time to answer all my questions via pm, phone or on the board and I have never bought anything from him in the past, but that may change soon, maybe even as soon as next week.
