Time to update this thread. Walt is doing a great job on this Dalton. Things are going smoothly and Walt is definitely keeping me in the loop as he progresses.

These pics show all but a few stringer left to go. Also shown are many test fit-up pics. Landing gear, headers, pipes etc.

Still some figuring left to go on the pipes exit.

Looking great Ryan/Walt!

Are you going to isolate or heat shield the pipes from the rest of the fuse somehow?

How will you be able to remove the pipes (if desired) from the fuse given the size of the stinger exits?

Hey Fixed Wing: There will be about 1-1/2 inches cut off the stinger end. If you look at the photo the stinger is a lot smaller than the diameter of the can itself. As you pull the can forward the can body will be allowed to drop down at the end of the can itself. If you turn the can at this location you are then able to twist the can and pull the front header to the side and it will roll out of the support bracket. The stinger can be about 1 inch or so longer than the body and still be able to removed. This type of bracket has worked with no issues on 2 Greve's installations I have done previously. There's another bracket support going in the F1 former area for 2 supports on these pipes. The pipes will be open in the fuse with no heat shield. We've come to find out it's not necessary as the cans run fairly cool. I will sheet between the stringers on the outside of the fuse to protect the covering and allow Ryan something to iron the covering down to. No tunnel...Walt

Thanks for your quick reply Walt. Cutting the stingers clears things up for me on how it will work out. I always use two support mounts on my can installations (one forward and one back). I have found the cans don't get beat up this way as opposed to using just one mounting point and hanging off the headers in the front. Glad to hear that you plan to add a second support.

I was actually told by DA that the flex headers tend not to fail if you use 2 mounts. So there is another reason to put two in.

I made a sub floor for the landing gear wire to lay against with a hardwood block epoxied on the bottom of the plate for the bent end to lock into, 1/4 inch hole. I eliminated all the extra wood on the forward section of this plate. This plate will epoxy in the tail area with triangle stock on the rear of F8 and the front of the tailpost 1/4 inch lower than the cover plate. I didn't want the strap screws attaching to the stringers so I made a cover plate slotted for the gear to recess into and allow the strap screws to attach to plywood and give the stringers a place to set into the plate. The rear of the stringers will epoxy to this unit. I don't think this will bust loose. I lightened it up about the most I can to avoid extra tail weight.

Walt, Ryan, looks great. I just finished a Dalton 300 with a Greves pipe set-up with only a support in the rear of the airplane, so far so good. What if any failures have you heard of doing it this way? Also in the middle of a MEL Dalton 300 that will also have a set of Greeves.

Hi Steve: I have heard "rumors" that some have split the teflon coupler with only one support. What I have noticed is that with the one support towards the rear I can easily move the flex section of the header from side to side. I can't say this would be an issue but just for the warm fuzzy feeling I do 2 supports. It could be a waist of time and add a couple ounces but its what I have been doing and so far no problems..BTW, have you got any pictures of the stinger outlet on your 300? Thanks Walt
