Nice Work as always Walt! Its actually beginning to motivate me to go finish mine! Im just about to start covering... I hate covering with a passion... I think thats why I have been delaying mounting the fin and glassing the canopy into the hatch... argh... covering...

The next two post will be Walt adding the side sheeting. I'm not sure what Tony recommends but I know Walt deviated from that. This is what he has come up with and it seems to work out just fine:
The side sheeting is a piece made up that comes out 6-3/4 x 89 inches, 3/32 sheeting before trimming. I glued the pieces lengthwise and then butt joined both with a 45 degree angle splice. What is happening here is that this sheeting actually hold the fuse straight. The stringers have a lot of flex length wise. Here's what I came up with and I actually did a practice run while this sheeting set's up which the pictures show. I took a straight piece of aluminum channel and clamped to the top of the fuse to hold it straight at each former location. With the fuse rolled on its side I took another straight edge and checked the top side again that's setting on the bench. There's 1/2"x 2 inch aluminum bar for weight plus some steel plates pushing down on the bar's. It all looks straight and this weight on the fuse side's will shortly have a sheet of balsa under it set in Titebond alphetic. There's some very slight variations down the sides where the former locations are. This seems the easiest and safest way to go to hold this correct and insure that its straight while the sheeting is setting up, one side at a time. |

Side #2:
I got the other side under weights, this system worked pretty good. There's no open spots I can see that's not glued down from the first side. Fuse has remained straight. After I got this sheeting all weighted and clamped down I took an acid brush and wetted it with water and went over the inside on all the contact points where the sheeting and formers meet, this brushed out the adhesive that squished out. Its an all day wait with it like this for it to set up... |

Turtle deck is under weight's, about 80 lbs worth. Ultimate polyurethane adhesive spritzed with water. Blocks on the front edge are a bumper to keep the core from sliding down off the sheeting while this all set's up. Small blocks pinned along the sides shove the sheeting to the core on the sides. I'll mess with this until there's 100% contact with the sheeting to the core.

Can you still get these? Been looking for weights, not as easy to find as you might think. |

Wayne know what he speaks. I think Davey had a hell of a time covering the Cardens after a few of our therapy sessions.
