Default Extreme Flight Extra 300, 88.5" with Plettenberg Terminator

Hello,

after I saw Benoit successful conversion of electric powered 88" Yak (see RCGroups) and Chris put the news of the 88.5" Extra, I knew I have to have it!

I was very excited about the fact, that the CG is spot on (!) and I decided to go ahead and show my work.

When I got plane in my house on 12th December ... I felt like it was xmas that day!

My setup:

Plettenberg Terminator 30/8 with special Plettenberg spinner and folding prop RASA 24/12 and 25/12
Schulze Future 32.170W (up to 11S Lipo only )
For start only 10S F3A Evolite 5350 mAh
4 x JR 8711 servos

Some of you might be interested:

Undercarriage, aluminium 266 g
Wheel pants, both, 78 g
Graupner light 100 mm wheels, both, 98 g
Pilot X, 87 h
Undercarriage endings, both, 16 g
Black tubing, 6 g
Carbon tailwheel assembly, 30 g
All accessories still in the bags, 153 g
Instrument panel, 31 g
Undercarriage closing piece, 19 g (še nekaj bo šlo stran)
Elevator, right , 133 g
Elevator, left, 130 g
Rudder, 113 g
Stab tube, 14 g
Right wing panel, 616 g
Left wing panel, 611 g
Wing tube, 133 g
Canopy, 400 g
Cowl, 227 g
Fuselage, 1709 g

_________________

Complete 4870 g. I didn't weighted the depron panels.

Here are some key photos. More can be found here

I couldn't see "poor finish" on the spinner, so I spent 3 hours polishing it

Still not finished elevator servo, but you get the idea:

Motor mount, extremely sturdy, 68 g + 70 g for the plate. All the dremeling saved approx 20 g (could be more or maybe even less...)

Rudder action is crazy fast. I added small support below the servo mount.

Joined tunel to the main plate on crucial places for more sturdy construction

Cells can be secured with a pair of straps (only the front one shown)

For freestyle flying my best bet will be some very powerful 5000-6000 mAh 11S1P pack with RASA 25/12 (actually 25.59 inch diameter!). Extra can take such big prop.

It is quite hard to see on the photo, but the prop is really big, I expect the rudder to be very effective

There are very little detailed photos of the Plettenberg Terminator motors, so here is what you get out of the box:

Motor 1023 g, this is 103 g more what Plettenberg says
Spiner 102.9 g
24/12 42.50 g + 42.90 g = 85.40 g
25/12 39.45 g + 39.25 g = 78.70 g

Rasa 24/12

New Years Eve - 10 hours in my workshop.

Here are the results:

242 g 8)

Better be safe than sorry, 63V, 2200 uF , 105°C, low ESR capacitor. I love Kapton

There is few more degrees more to squeeze out

Cables will be shortened. I need to modify the canopy tough... more weight savings

Chinese BEC will go through rigorous ground testing before I let it fly in the model! :P

Was this model made for electric power? Just a joke

CG is 6" from LE with this position of the cells:

Some "closing" operations today. Quite some time consuming work.

Depron pieces were used because the front of the model is closed due to the cooling.
I left opened motor mount and servo opening and limited the tunnel intake. I wanted as much possible air to be removed from the cells via the tunnel. I think this should work quite well.

I didn't published these yet..

Scale touch

Here is how I modified the pilot and mounted it on the canopy. Now I can do wild 3D manouvers and pilot will stay in place

I shaved some weight off the Pilot and it came to 84.9 g with pylwood pieces. Pilot was attached with screws from below.

With UHU POR

So nice. I look forward to the flight reports. If you post a video, leave out the music. I want to hear that Terminator.

Nice build thread! I can not wait for the video!!! Make sure you record it as it might push me over to converting mine to electric.

Hello to all

Sorry for not doing any update.

Yesterday it was the D-day!

Maiden was really easy. My setup was 10S Evolite 5350 F3A and 25x12 prop. I think it is quite good power, but due to the wind picking up I was unable to test Evo 30 4500 11S (6S+5S) pack.

Model is flying GREAT, also the sound from the prop somehow surprised me

Wow Miha, youv'e come a long way from running saw boats in LA. And I see you haven't wasted any of your old boat stickers either on some of your other planes. Congratulations.
