Most of my Christmas break was spent researching all the RC Flight Simulators out there (I'm kind of obsessed). I own ClearView but I'd like pick up one of the "deluxe" sims, as well. Unfortunately, I can't figure out which one to buy!
Since I wasn't able to find any comparison charts online I compiled all my notes, links and data and published my own chart here: http://www.emptynestgames.com/rc_sim_chart.html I'm hoping this will be useful for other "undecideds" out there. (If anyone spots any inaccuracies with this information, please let me know.) |

I'm sorry you didn't find my chart useful, dubd! I agree that a comparison chart is a difficult way to evaluate these kinds of products, but as most of them don't have interactive demos the best way to evaluate them (online, at least) is by looking at comments, feature lists, user reviews, screenshots and videos, etc. It took awhile for me to do the research and gather all the information and put it in one place -- for myself. After I finished my own chart, it seemed like it might be kind of useful to others in the same boat as me, so I put it online. Hopefully, SOMEONE else will find it helpful. ;-)
You obviously prefer G4. Have you tried any of the other sims? (Still in fact gathering mode.) |

I own both G3.5 and AFPD and i have to say G3.5 is miles better than AFPD.AFPD suffers with its physics compared to G3.5 and add the facts that there are literally hundreds of planes available for G3.5(rising all the time) and the physics editor is amazing as you can change practically every part of your aircraft.I make planes for G3.5 and think that the program is fantastic.G3.5 has a great community that is always willing to help out with questions, check it out for yourself at
http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/index.php? The forums are very helpful and are packed with extras like airports, colourschemes, planes, helis etc. I will be upgrading to G4 as soon as i save the money.Whichever sim you decide on i hope it helps you with your flying.G3.5 has helped me hugely with practicing 3d without crashing all my planes saving me probably hundreds if not thousands of pounds. If you are interested my planes for G3.5 can be downloaded from the link below so go and check them out. http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...-5-models.html http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...0s-g3-5-a.html http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...on-g3-5-a.html http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...es-g3-5-a.html Last edited by inky00; 01-10-2008 at 09:12 AM. |

Thanks, heydick!
I wanted to let everyone know that I just updated my chart with new information, including a review of RealFlight's G4. One of the categories I added was for "User Created Aircraft". I'm pretty sure that the FS One folks don't currently have a public editor available. Do they have one planned? Does anyone know? |

I think that the "spreadsheet" is a great way to compile information for comparitive shopping, IF you haven't already got one that you are happy with. He put together more on one page than I have been able to keep bouncing 'round in this old noggin.
I've got an old Dave Brown (first release) that won't run on my last three computers. |

I have FSOne. I use the new JR 9303 currently trying to get my Heli skills down. This simulator does not let me use any of the computer settings in the radio, so it does not allow me to try or practice with real settings. Do other simulators let you use the JR 9303 and it's internal settings?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hugely helpful info!!!!!! Modeled as a kid and always looked at the RC stuff as something only the rich kids got to do. Now my son and I are looking into it, and I want to start off on the computer before we crash/buy a bunch of stuff. It's easy to poo poo what research is not, but my many thanks to you for taking the time to put this together. You very much helped out a newbie. I'll pay it forward when I can. |
