Wings should be at a 30-45degree angle,, it is just a complete circle, flyin left to right(just using this way as a example),, then bank and make a big horizontal, symetrical circle, , keep a constant altitude, bank and speed.. . if anyone can make a better explination feel free to,,

I thought it was 45°-90° of bank thereby making it an "Aerobatic" turn as opposed to a regular banking turn that would not make passengers:

Guys......check the rules....

Quote:

In aerobatic competition, a turn is
divided into three parts:
1) Establishing the bank using a roll on
heading.
2) The turn itself.
3) A roll back to straight and level flight
on heading.
Let’s look at the turn during each of these three
parts. First, the roll to establish the bank. This
must be a roll of between 60 and 90 degrees; it
must be performed on the entry heading; and the
aircraft must maintain a constant horizontal line.
Once the roll is completed and the angle of bank
is established, the competitor immediately
performs the turn. The turn must maintain the
established angle of bank throughout. The
aircraft must also maintain horizontal flight. The
rate of turn is constant throughout and the
maneuver must be wind corrected so that, for
instance, a 360-degree turn will be a perfect
circle. It
should be noted that the wind correction cannot
be performed by visibly changing the bank
angle.
heading, the competitor performs another roll at
a rate equal to the entry roll. Again, the aircraft
must maintain a constant horizontal line.

There is more, but that gives the gist of it

Here's a crazy idea. Let's take a look at the Scale aerobatics rule book!!

60 degree bank all the way through. Don't make it a priority though. Aerobatic turns have very low K factors.

You may also want to look at Wayne's video of the 2008 Basic Sequence. Might help with visualization.

Will look for the link and post if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Thanks everyone, I left right after posted but did since see the video for 2008. thanks for the replies.

I have another question, how big of a box are you supposed to fly ? are you supposed to fly it close in or can you fly it long? I only been around pattern flyers SPA and they fly a big box all way from left to right of the feild.

Thanks

As long as you're not noticeably far I wouldn't worry about it. Some say 30 degrees from the horizontal dead-line (usually runway) each way would show you the wall. Others say 1,200 feet. I say don't go too far and you're good. There's not altitude limit.

If you fly like this, you will only be a fair, maybe good IMAC pilot. To be a great IMAC pilot, EVERY maneuver has priority. Make them all perfect and excellent, and you will succeed that much more.

Some one posted that the turn must maintain the same bank angle once established, but then how do you correct for a strong wind?

If a constant bank angle is maintained, an airplane will drift downwind.

For example, in a strong headwind, shouldn't the second half of the turn be a tad steeper to keep from drifting downwind?

I'm just a newbie so I am all ears trying to soak up info. Please enlighten me with some wisdom (Like what Zak said above).

Thanks.

Airbike,

The wind correction can be done using rudder and elevator. Remember that the heading of the aircraft can be at any angle, but the flight path must remain unchanged. If you are turning from downwind to upwind, you will need to pull harder on the elevator at the apex of the turn to keep the radius constant. The bank angle however cannot change. As would be done in any other maneuver, 1 point per 10 degrees is deducted for bank angle change, and/or too shallow or too steep of a bank.

That wasn't a slam. I know Zak, he's a good guy, unlike you FWB.

Zak you're right. I do practice every maneuver as much as the other ones, especially when you get to higher classes. You would know, you fly Unlimited (wish I could). But I guess it could actually come down to the aerobatic turn in Basic where everything has lower K factors. Good call.
