Default Online IMAC Contest (G3)

What would you guys say to a nice, organized online IMAC contest on G3.5?? We could use the 2008 Knowns, and we could email the contestants as soon as the contest starts with an Unknown sequence.

We could do Basic and Sportsman one night, Intermediate and Advanced another night, and Unlimited the last day, with some freestyle maybe.

For judges, we could have 3 guys from higher classes judging each category.

I think it could be done, and it could be fun!

What do you guys think?

I think it'd be cool, but it's really hard to keep orientation in G3, because you can't see the ground like you can at a real field, and if you use Keep in Ground view, the plane gets too small when you go to the top of the box.

Aerofly Pro Deluxe is much better for IMAC and Pattern practice IMO because of the way it projects the image. In G3/3.5/4 when you try and practice sequences the airplane seems to veer off course when it is just a video artifact. I find in Aerofly it is MUCH better.

Don't get me wrong - G4 is a really fun and excellent sim. But Aerofly is what I use for practice. It does have the same issue - but you can adjust the perspective settings so that the lines appear a lot more straight.

In G4 the projection is more "round" You can see it if you pull to a 45 line at center and hold heading (you can verify this in the Nav window) the airplane will apear to move sharply away from the flight line... but your heading doesn't change. I think it is just the perspective they use.

If you fly up high in either everything looks perfect because there is no ground reference...

But it is a cool idea... I'd love to see the simulator photofield gurus add some nice practice fields for pattern with grids laid out in the air. Maybe one day the manufacturers will add the ability to view replays from different positions with features for projecting the track of the airplane... that would really help with practice.

Yes, it is a little harder to fly straight lines in G3 but that'll be part of the challenge!

Also, I know that AFPD is probably a little better for flying sequences (I had afpd), but it doesn't have a multiplayer feature on it. Not online anyways.

But I havea question, what are we going to do about plane selection for the contest? For example, right now on my G3.5 I fly a 35% Dalton Extra 260 but when we all get into a room on Multiplayer and I fly, you guys will see my plane as a Nextstar because the simulator goes to a default plane when it doesn't recognize the airplane you are flying. So what we do about that because I am sure there are alot of people flying planes like the Dalton. Maybe we should limit the pilots to only fly the Yak 54 included with the Base Simulator but that might not be that fun with everyone flying the same airplane.

What do you guys think about this?

I think we should limit the airframe to Yak-54 only. People would be able to edit it to their liking, but it would have to be just the Yak. Good call.

Sounds like a great Idea, I think AFPD would be much better to use for any type of Imac flying but if your going to use Realflight It would be nice if we used one of the better Custom aircraft instead of the Yak which flys like crap for precision. I found that the Composite arf Extra draws really nice and long lines. You could make this aircraft standard and give the option for modifications to anyone willing to make them.
I also flew G4 today for the first time at the local hobby store (I have G3.5 myself) and It actually looks and flys better than G3.5. They also made some type of perspective changes because the field views changes much more realisticly and the aircraft physics felt more like the real thing (Except for torque rolls that did'nt stop rotating when giving opposite aileron).

Sure, the comp-arf sounds fine it's just like i said before...you would have to get everyone in the contest to download the Comp-arf from the Knife edge swap pages otherwise the people who don't have the plane would see you flying a nextstar. The only way using another plane would work would to have everyone download the same plane from KE and that would be a bit of a hasle.

I think that the dalton 42% extra 260 for g3.5 is what we should use it is best for precision. download it and youll now what i mean
