Nogyro,

I have a3W 106 in mine on KS86 cans. My batteries, two Fromeco 4800 packs are just behind the former for the rudder servo.

Dan,

I'm running a single 2300 mAh A123 battery to power everything, radio & ignition, so I don't even have the ignition battery up front. Throttle servo is in stock postion, no choke servo. The battery is mounted back one more former than yours. I'm using a Mejzlik 27x10 prop and TT spinner with the lightened backplate. A Menz prop will only save me an ounce or so, and I prefer the Mej. over the Menz anyways. I looked into the CF spinners, and really didn't want the hassel of all the screws around the cone, plus having to have all your props drilled dead on the same in order for the nose cone to fit. I bet your cans shift some weight off the nose and back closer to the CG.

Could you consider changing the stock tailwheel to either a J&J or White Rose Engineering? You only need a little bit back there to make a big difference.

When I put the plane together, I was going to replace the stock tail wheel with an Ohio Superstar Haigh one that I had laying around. It was lighter than the stock one though, so I didn't use it. I need to put some lead back there to find out exactly how much I do need, but UGH, I hate to do that. LOL

Anyone know of an easy way of putting lead in the tail other that glueing some lead strips back there?

John,

I got the Spektrum module for my Futaba 8UAFS about a month ago and it's been bullet proof. I wanted to try out the A123's as well, so I slowly worked them into my planes. Also been reading about doing away with ignition batteries while using the 2.4 Ghz system. A buddy of mine did if first and had zero problems with it. I've been using a 1500 Elite for ignition on the DA100, and a Sanyo FAUP 1950 for the receiver for two years on several planes. With all the output of the A123's I thought I would give it a shot. I got the battery from Radical RC. It's wired with three output leads with 20 gauge wire. Two go to two switches, then to the AR7000 receiver. The other lead goes to the ignition switch. I'm using 450-500 mAh/flight. The A123 is loafing with this kind of amp load. I charge with an FMA Cellpro 4s charge. After 3 flights it takes 22 minutes to charge/balance, or I can charge sooner with an even shorter charge time.

Thats cool, what works, works. Not enough redundancy on this size of model for my personal preference, but Im all for the K.I.S.S. system.

Rawk on!
JV

PS, sweet plane eh?

Stock pants cracked after 10 flights. I have to agree, it looks soooo much better with them on. The landing gear is just a bit thin, and mine tends to shake pretty good just sitting on the ground at idle. When I taxied, the tails of them would vibrate into a blur.

Gotcha. Now you can fix them and put some CF strips inside to strengthen them without the weight penalty.

I'll have to give that a try. The tails of the pants didn't crack though, it was on both sides of the wood block where they're bolted to the landing gear. The FG tore starting at the bottom, and worked it's way up. I took them off pretty quick, so there is still something there to repair. I've got some B&B wheel pant brackets, but what a PITA to put on.

In some cases, the engine vibrations can be amplified on some parts of the plane by the frequency of the vibrations.
I personally have not lost wheel pants from vibration since adding a small wood block to support the exterior part of the wheel pants.
I made a drawing of what I use, and while it add a insignificant few grams of weight, this should solve all vibration issues on wheel pants.
Hope this helps.
I am not sure if the file will upload properly, but here it is.

Still not sure on the 36% or the 43% both have great reviews and by the sounds of the GREAT customer support the planes and PAU cant be beat.
Have a older Aero tech 540 35%er and its due to be upgraded.
These planes still have the all build up wings/stabs ect?
Never was a big fan of foam, build up always seems lighter and stronger if done right.
The 36% always had built up surfaces, and these have performed great. The very rare issues we have seen were the result of mishandling during shipping (we all know how delicate some shipping companies can be...)
The 43% next production will also have the built up wings that Ken and I have been using for the past several months. We have made some improvements to the original 43% built up wings by re-enforcing several areas and components of the wing.
There were only a few foam wings shipped following a wing failure on one of the original demo sets. The foam wings were the quickest solution we had in order to help our customers who already had the plane, but the the new built up wings are lighter than the foam version.

Herve,

You are absolutley correct about the harmonics at certain rpms... There is one spot just off idle that my pants really shook. Your wood block on the exterior part of the wheel pant would do the trick. That's what the B&B wheel pant bracket does. It connects the outer end of the axle to the wheel pant. I just thought I would try to bolt these pants on without them to see how it went. I have seen other pants attached without the outer support that held up fine. They must be made of a heavier fiberglass cloth to eliminate the flexing.
