Right on, I have an old style harris pump that I am going to try on the dalton. Smackdown has that sullivan and says he could not get the flow to slow down or something.

Reccomended cg was 6.5"-7". 6.5 if you are doing more imac then 3d. and 7 if you want to 3d like crazy.

kingranch- yeah, it took me a while to figure out why my flow wouldnt slow. but i figured it out. Its too much to explain on words. IF anyone out there is using a sullivan smoke system and wants some intructions on set up for the futabab 9c, just shoot me a pm.

I had a hard time getting it to go slow enough and it would flood out and deadstick my engine - I had to make a restrictor that squeezed the line way down - overall there wasn't much enjoyment - deadstick everytime I used the smoke.... it wouldn't cut the flow quick enough for doing throttle-cut snaps - usually that would end in deadstick action. if I cut the smoke prior to chopping the throttle - or if I just didn't ever chop the throttle it was ok. This was with a saito 220 glow engine.

I never had a problem with mine on the 3W106 (straight mufflers) using the Sullivan Red skywriter.

I had looked at the possibility of putting a 5" on it, but waited to get the plane first and see. Measured it up and 5" would be way too big and not look right. I am going to put a No Limitz 4.5" Ultimate spinner on it.

what kind of power source did you guys use ? I had a 6 volt battery - I wonder if speed control worked better with a higher voltage power source ?

I used a 7.4 LION with no reg.

It takes some fine tuning with it mixed to the throttle to get the mixture just right. I found that the pump hardly ran at idle and never got over half at full throttle for thick white smoke. Anymore than that and I had excess oil on the plane.

I can tell when im pumping too much oil; when i turn off the smoke, that there is still a stream from unburned oil trapped in the muffler. I can still probably go down another 5%

Quick question. What is the drop for a solid header on a DA100 for this airframe.

The drop is 85mm. I think this drawing was posted a few pages ago, but here you go any way.

No industrial engine or chain saw parts are used. Many years ago the ZDZ® ModelMotor engineering staff was given the daunting task of designing a family of gas fueled model airplane engines that must meet many conflicting specifications: Lightweight, Powerful, Low vibration levels in the single cylinder engines, Fuel efficient, Reliable, Long lived and easy to manufacture . They succeeded!
ZDZ engines have rotary valves*. This is one of the main reasons for the incredible throttle response of ZDZ RC gas engines. Most engineering experts agree that the rotary valve has brought the two-cycle engine its highest degree of efficiency and performance.

Don,

The ZDZ 100 is a fine little motor. I have that same motor in my Ultimate which weighs 3 lbs more than the Edge. It pulls my Ulti around just fine. Not as much power as the DA but on this plane it will be unnoticeable. The throttle response is the best of any gasser I have. Some complain saying there a little hard to start but the ZDZ's just require a different starting procedure. Once you figure that out, starting is fairly easy. You will likely be around 24lbs with this combo which is about the same as this plane equipped with the DA-85. The ZDZ does have a shorter shaft, so stock mufflers may rub the cowl. On cans there would be no worries.

Ken
