Part 2 of the DA-85 install. The header is now finally installed and I needed to cut about a 1/2" off of it. Although not necessary, I also cut out some of the firewall to make access to the carb a little easier. Trimmed the cowling as shown and it still needs a little touching up, but its pretty much done. All in all, it still looks pretty clean even with the 85.

I ordered from Carden one of their carden edge 40% CF main gear made by rcsupergear, it is almost identical in specs as the stock gear and weighs 9oz (stock gear is 16oz). I am really happy with how the plane is turning out so far, and have had great service from PAU. My wings came damaged and they got me a set right back out to me in no time flat. My setup is going to be a DA 100, Vess 27A, stock mufflers, 8711s in the wings and tail, and a single 8711 on the rudder, dual A123 batts and a EQ 10. I will get an accurate weight as well.
Thank you for the information Charles. I am really looking forward to you guys getting these in the air.

We're working on it. There is a vid of the 43% on the web site. Over the next week or so I'll get the 85 going and try and tape the maiden.

BTW, I wish our UPS driver looked like yours!

Hi Charles,

My 36% Edge just arrived yesterday and I am trying to decide between the 3W106 and the DA100. My buddy Warren out in Vegas swears by the 3W. Others swear by the DA. I have a 3W50QS on a QQ Yak that runs great. Sounds like you are a 3W106 fan. Why the DA this time?

Thanks,
Rick

I have no brand loyalties and fly about everything. I have not flown a DA in some time and figured I would try another 100 on this plane as I have always had good luck with them in the past. I have also had good luck with my 3Ws in the past as well, so really just a change this time. Plus, the guys out at DA are awesome to work with.

I think I would shy away from the 106 on this one, just for balance reasons. Though the claimed weight is about the same for a DA100 and the 3W 106, the 3W is quite a bit heavier almost 1/2 a lb. Mine balanced perfectly with an 85 with the battery's on the CG.

Hi Eric,

No worries about the CG. Glad to hear how your balanced with the 85. Did you put your CG at the 7" location? As far as the 100's go, there fine. A pound in the nose is worth about an inch of CG. The hardware setup picture I posted of the DA-100 install is with a 6-1/2" CG.

I guess you have plenty of room to move battery's if you had to. Mine is 6 1/2-6 3/4 ish so far. I'll check it again when it's all mounted and get a finished weight.

Eric

Right on brother!

Those are 3/4" aluminum cable stops. I buy them here at a local hardware store. I bought the last ones they had but they were supposed to get some more. Let me know if you can't find them and I'll see if they got some more in. They cost about a buck a piece.

Chris,

Sorry, not this year. I have too many plates in the fire already.

I posted these pics on another forum, but I thought I would share them here also.
DA-85 billet alum. engine mount and tunnel mod. The mount is a little heavy about 5oz I'm planning on milling out another 1.5 -2oz later. Right now I'm anxious to get the airplane flying. Hopefully the wind and rain stay away long enough Saturday AM for a maiden.
