Yep......been wanting one since I flew Ken's when they first came out. This one fell into my hands and I couldn't pass it up. Its time for the Aerotech V1 Edge to retire anyway. Its been through some rough crashes and is no longer straight. It needs a complete strip down/rebuild and I don't have time for that now.

Just got the message.........I'm picking my wings and some misc things tomorrow.

I now just need an ignition battery. I may steal it from another plane just to get it airborne this weekend.

Lots of wiring and some cowl cutting to do tonight!

Nope. Had to run out and get some misc screws today. I got the Reg and EQ10 mounted. All 4 switches are mounted. I rewired 2 of them for deans to plug into the Reg. I made the back mounts for the blind nuts on engine and they are installed and gluing in place with aeropoxy. I'm about to mount the engine and make the marks for cowl cutouts.

Rudder and elevators are programmed. I changed the way the wings mount. I glued in 1/4x20 bolts into the wings so I can use nylon wingnuts in the fuse to hold the wings on.

I have to wait for tomorrow for glue to dry to really do anymore.

Hey Sam,
Hope you don't have any problems with your Edge 540.
About two weeks ago another one at our field did a fly-by with a snap.
We heard a bang and imeadiatly hollered for him to land (he didn't hear it)
When he landed took the left wing off (there were some wrinkles in the covering)
most of the ribs were broken and the sheeting broke lose from the leading edge.
I haven't seen him since so I don't know how it turned out.

Larry S

I'm not worried. I don't fly full throttle except uplines and my 3D is very tame. I've watched the local guys here wring the crap outta theirs doing 3D and no issues and Ken let me fly his a few times and all was good again and it is the prototype and its still kicking strong. Of course again they don't do full throttle snaps or parachutes stressing the airframe past what it was designed for.

The airplane is built light......you gotta be careful with transport/assembly/flying to make it last.

Yea that's why I went with a different Co. I didn't want a plane I had to baby around and worry about the wings coming apart.

As fas as I know, the airplane in question was on its 3rd owner, there's no telling what an airframe has been through before with previous owners.

I think you misunderstand what I meant Larry. I won't be changing my flying style at all. I don't baby my planes but I don't abuse them either. I understand though that some people want to fly full throttle snaps and others might accidently pull too many G's etc. I'm very happy with my PAU Ultimate I won and recoverd and I can't say enough good things about the PAU Su-26. I've flown the 36% Edge on a DA85 in the '08 sportsman sequence and I tried a little 3-D with it. I did the same thing with the 40% PAU Edge on a DA150. They have been on my list of planes to get for a long time. Things just worked out that I found a decent used fuse and had the money to buy the parts I needed to finish it.

If we are talking about my Edge I believe its only on the 2nd owner and its only the fuse and stabs that are used. The wings are brand new. I went through the fuse with a fine tooth comb. I only found 2 spots that needed glue. On the top brace of the center of the fuse (typical where it slots together) and at the gear plate where the previous owner said he had a rough landing. Both were just loose parts that needed some wicking is all, NO BIG DEAL.

Now for what I did today. I got the motor installed and the throttle linkage hooked up. I cut the cowl to fit the snorkel on my 3W106TOC. Later tonight I'm going to mark where the mufflers would go and then do the fish gill design around that. That way if I choose to install mufflers later it will be simple (remember I'm doing cans to start with).

I got the wings together except I forgot that I needed new servo arms. The LHS didn't answer the phone so I don't know if they have 4 arms in the right size. Hopefully they do or I'll be doing a mismatch for the maiden.
