I'll take some photos of the repair. I'll be looking for advice as I go before I glue things in.

Sam,
I use a cut off wheel to remove the ply that was broken when I tore my gear plate out. I saved the pieces from the floor to use as a pattern. I didn't have any thin ply for the loor, so I used the ply from the shipping box since it was the same thickness. The floor isn't structural (sp?), that's why I used it there. I used West systems epoxy to glue everything together, as it's a very slow curing epoxy. Pics to follow. |

Will love to see the pics. A quick description of what mine did.
The floor ply was very thing and broke the ends off so it will have to be replaced. The alum brackets had 3 screws in the sides attached to the ply in the side of the fuse. These ripped out 1 on the left and 2 on the right. So I would have to replace or graft more ply to the sides. That is really all the damage other than a stringer that broke (easy fix). I just need to see a few pics so I can recreate it better. I'll be using Hysol for the fix most likely. Also the lower cowl mount in your pic---cracked on mine. I'll have to reinforce that as well. Nose low crashes suck. But I have not had a bad crash in a few years so I was due. You guys can thank me for giving one up to the Gods in your place.

Sam,
The only thing left on mine is to make two balsa "fairings" that allow the covering to mold better to the curve of the fuse. Pics of those if you need them too. |

HI Sam,
So sorry to hear about your dead stick, I know how that hurts to see your pride and joy go in like that. But from what you say the damage was not to bad. Hope you get it back up and running soon. Larry S.

Damage was actually less than it looked at the field.
I'm going to keep the cowl and try to do some fiberglass or CF cloth repair on it for practice. I ordered everything I need to have this plane in the air again (including a new cowl). Couldn't ask for less damage.... Low, Slow and about 60 degrees nose down are not good combos.

Yeah bonking an engine right after takeoff sure isn't the best way to enjoy a day at the field.
Hope you get it back in the air soon!
