Eric,
Have you contacted DA about your IGN yet? Chris, I'll send you a PM. Ken[/quote] Yes, they said if it works fine than it's fine. For those of you that are not following the other thread, I ran my ignition with 7.5 volts accidentally which ended in two dead stick landings. She touched down like a butterfly with sore feet both times. Eric |

Time to finish up the DA-85 install. I covered the deck to keep the heat out from the canister and added some bling. I made a servo tray to get the servos center on the carb. Decided to go with a choke servo on this one. I also wanted an easy way to get to the carburetor needles so after drilling a couple holes, I CA'd in some guides into the motor mount.
After final trimming the cowl, I added a piece of automotive vacuum hose to protect the cowl add ignition wire. I may change that to something else that looks better later on. So that’s how I installed my 85 so now I’ll move on to aircraft setup. Ken |

Thanks Jordan! The 100 is drop in installation but the 85 requires a little bit more work.

Well I snuck out to the field and got in one flight before my cell phone rang. My DA 85 ran very good the entire flight. I kept it up pretty high, I'm still a little shell shocked from the two dead sticks. The problem seems to have gone away. I did a little hovering it was very stable, I did a couple of rolling harriers which looked like it was happening in slow motion. The KE coupling was minimal but could use a tiny bit of mix. What really amazed me were the elevators it will do. It seemed like a 3m sailplane in a thermal. It just sat there and sat there, no wind. The landing was extremely slow, it looked as if you could walk next to it. I'm very happy with the airplane so far, we have good weather forcasted for the entire weekend. I'm hoping to get at least a couple gallon through the engine. I think the power will be ballistic once the engine is run in and I can prop it up. I will try to get some video and some nerve to bring it down low. I've never flown a 40%, but I imagine this is what it feels like.

I think I could make those mounts at the shop, I work at Hendrick Motorsports (engine dept.) I think when I get me a DA-85 I will try it on a 5 axias CNC machine and see how it comes out, should be able to come out a little lighter as stated.

I finished mine this evening, and will post flight report tomorrow. Everything went together fine and only one real hiccup. I was not satisfied with the pull/pull setup, could never get it slop free or even close to my liking, which lead me to another route. With the DA 100 and stock mufflers, I was going to need to add 7oz to the tail (very noseheavy with the 100 on stock mufflers and batteries a few inches behind the wing tube) to get it to balance between the 6.5" - 7" range, so with that issue and the pull/pull not cooperating we mounted the single 8711 in the tail on the right side in a push/pull configuration. This helped out with the balance and led to only 3oz in the tail to balance the plane. For PAU I would encourage that your second run of these planes have provisions for a servo in the tail for the rudder for those using a DA 100 or similarly weighted engines. I can see how this plane easily balances with the DA 85 no problem. I have the batteries next to the rudder tray (where the tray used to be), CF Spinner and wood prop, and it was still very tailheavy. Other than that, I am pleased with how it turned out, and AUW including the 3oz dead weight in the tail is 25lbs 2oz. 2x 8711s per wing, 1x 8711 per stab, 1x 8711 in the tail for the rudder, Hitec 5965 on throttle and 225 on choke. Pete Model 4.5" Extra spinner and Vess 27A prop. Dual A123s and smart fly EQ 10, fromeco 2600 for ignition. RCSupergar/Carden Aircraft 40% Edge CF main gear and rc blimp tail gear, PSP titanium axles. These are the components that make the weight listed above. Pics and flight report tomorrow.

I got 3 flights on the Edge today, could not have asked for a better day, 75 degrees and winds 5-10. First flight took it easy and flew for about 7 minutes then landed to check it out. Flight #2 and #3 I started to 3D the plane, etc. I am stoked about the potential when I get it all dialed in. Looks like with my CG at 7" it is touchy and a tad tail heavy, but perfect right there for 3D. For precision it would need to come forward about .5" or so for a good mix of both. Harriers were rock solid, hovers effortless and waterfalls awesome. Just a great 3D plane IMO. For 3D I would rate it a 10/10, and precision (where my CG is) about a 7/10. Here are some pics from today. Flys just like my old Carden 35% Edge, but a lot lighter. No inflight pics as I did not trust anyone to take them with my Nikon lol.
