I am sure it is a fine flyer. I am also sure it would take a lot of effort to get it to 38 pounds -most will probably be much lighter. Still, it is small compared to today's 150cc birds. As I said, there will be a market for it, like guys that don't want to have to buy a trailer, can't afford a $2000 kit, but really want to have a plane that will take a 150. This is probably a huge market. But I doubt people will be dumping their Aeroworks/SD/[insert other high performance G/S ARF companies here]/Daltons/Cardens to buy one of these. In the grand scheme of things, without reading too much into what T.bob writes, I think that is really his point.
I don't think GP had intentions of competing with such planes. They definitely created a new market with this one - a 150CC plane for the price of a 100cc plane.
Not to mention, used 150's just might be quite obtainable here in the near future

And I still wouldn't be convinced. I've owned them. I know I couldnt justify the cost when really sat and thought about it.

My only concern with this airplane is that it doesnt have a pipe tunnel built... just dont understand that one.
Very true.

If you going to spent the time and money in bringing a large scale aircraft into the market place at least make it completive.
No tunnel is just plane stupid.

pun intended.

It seems like Great Planes makes aerobatic planes in a vacuum. An example is that a couple of their 27% planes had one piece wings! It isn't until the products are out the door that they get flamed.

I believe you are thinking of Polks, which was on 5th Ave and 32 St.

Americas Hobby was on 22nd St, then 30th St for the past couple of years, and now somewhere in NJ (where I believe Polks is also now located).

Its sad that 'ol Tbob has found his way over to the giants site to spread his caustic gab on a whole new crowd of hobby flyers. I was the victim of his vile about a year ago, and it seems that he's still lurking out there trying to stir up crap. I was hoping his mommy took computer privledges away!

Funny thing is that T-Bobs thoughts on the plane are and will be uttered at most fields and club meetings. If Tower is serious about selling a giant scale plane then they should know enough to cater to the giant scale crowd. Oh someone will try the plane due to price and lack of knowledge about what makes a plane fly good. They may make money on it after all. I consider this site as one big giant club and can't wait for another day to read about all the new thoughts and ideas. T-Bob is a vocal member. You all have had one in your club, right???? I kind of enjoy his banter and know he has a smile on his face thinking about the next guy that will take him real serious.

My information has it that Frank Noll personally worked on the development of that plane and spent weeks tuning the airframe etc to get it flying just like a he wanted. While some of you guys are weight freaks and for good reason there is also a good reason to have a stick and tissue ARF plane to be somewhat tolerant of minor abuse.

For less than a $1000 you can have that thing in your garage. Its really aimed at the guy who wants a 40% plane but on a budget. That guy likely does not really need a feather, he most likely wants something that can bounce a little without ripping the gear plate out. Something that can take a few dumb thumbs.

I think GP done their homework well on this model. Its aimed at the cost conscious market and there is a real need for that. I know my first two 35% 'rs have the rudder proudly nailed to the wall. If they had have been $2000 ARF's it may have had some serious implications on my getting back on the horse and riding it again.

I take my hat off to Frank and GP for putting a low cost, excellent flying ARF on the market for those who want to go up a few percent yet not need to take out a new mortgage on the house to do it.
