The servos finally arrived from Hitec towards the end of last week. It is now time to get them installed. I started off by cutting the plugs off of each servo and soldering the extensions directly to each servo lead. Once all of the servos were complete, I started mounting them.

Here's a few more pictures of the soldering and results of one of the servos. This is not a requirement for the setup of this size plane. It is my personal preference to eleminate the clips where they are not needed for setting up at the field. I did this on the elevator, aileron, and rudder servos.

Some pictures of servos mounted and linkages setup, this was pretty straight forward. I used the parts Air Wild recommends for each of the surfaces.

Time to move on to installing the SF throttle kill and throttle servo. Earlier in the build I mentioned that I am using a FromeCo 2600 LiIon battery, basic FromeCo Reg, and a HD hitec switch for Ignition. It is time to mount the Smart Fly FO kill switch and Hitec 5245 throttle servo. I mounted the SF FO switch transmitter on the tray above the wing tube and the receiver on the bulk head adjacent to the motor box. The servo installation is simple, using the 4 blocks included in the plane I doubled them up with CA. Using 5 min epoxy I set them in place on the right side of the fuselage and waited for the Epoxy to setup. While waiting I finished up on the Carbon Fiber push rod for the throttle. The throttle servo and carb arm are lined up so that when the servo arm is 90 deg the throttle is at 50%. I will double check this with a tach to see how accurate it is.

Just got confirmation from FromeCo that the battery and regulator shipped this morning. If it makes it in this week, I am confident that the maiden flight will be sunday.

Didn't get too much done last week but I was able to finish her up Sunday. Turned out to be really windy so I worked on the Edge all day. I am still waiting on a package from FromeCo, looks like it will be delivered tommorow. Here are a few pics just before I started working on the cowl.

Cowl prepped and ready to dremel out the opening for the motor and muffler. Once this was complete I carefully marked the fuse with blue painter tape for the alignment of the cowl. I mounted the hard blocks with blind nuts. Trial fit of the cowl, everything lined up nicely.

It is now time to mount the canopy glass to the hatch. The glass comes already cut and ready to mount. Before breaking out the glue I used wax paper on the fuse to prevent glue from bonding the two together. I used phillips head screws along with canopy glue. The screws are mainly looks, once they were in place I put a bead of canopy glue down. Came back through with a wet paper towel to clean up the over flow.

This is it, all of the assembly is complete. Now I need to clean up the wiring on the inside, get the battery, regulator and switch installed. If the weather holds out this weekend a maiden flight will be in my plans. I have some Air Wild stickers to slap on here and need to finalize an order with Kirbys Kustom.

Phil Man I even thought about driving out, I worked at home today bc I had a repair guy out here. Depending on tommorow and how fast he finishes everything up I may try to make it out there. Were you at the field Sunday? The wind was horrible at the house. |

Well the Avionics finally made it, I installed them today and checked everything over. I am using FromeCo Batteries, Switch and regulators all with Deans connector for this plane. I covered earlier in the thread how the Ignition was setup. Now lets take a look at the system. I first installed the Badger Switch on the left side of the fuse. Mounted the battery on top of the fuel tank and strapped it down with velcro. The regulator has Deans input and 2 JR out. This will allow more juice to flow to the R921 receiver. The regulator is mounted on the plate with the rudder servo.

I am adding the DC Up from FromeCo, this is a new realase and a pretty cool device. It is a bank of capacitors that holds power in extreme manuevers ensuring that you keep your voltage up. Pretty simple to operate using a single momentary button to scroll through the menu. It will show the actual voltage, lowest voltage, and voltage of each capacitor.

How are those CA hinges holding up? Kind of surprised me that a plane this big would not use Robart style hinges
