I personally have used these Radio South CA hinges in plane as large as 35%. Best, Jerry Bien AirWild |

I agree with Jerry, the plane is designed correctly for using CA hinges. My Edge has several flights on it and a few of them where kinda rough on the airframe and not a hint of problems or failures from any of them. Just use plenty of fresh thin CA and make sure you saturate each hinge and just go fly the damn thing.... lol

Good thats what I wanted to hear, sounds like they work fine. Just curious.
Do you also seal the underside of the ailerons with clear ultracote? |

Where does your CG end up? The manual has a bit of a contradiction. On page 22 it says the 103mm point is at the center of the wing tube...? No it's not. From how they describe to measure, ithe wing tube is 130mm. With the wings on and canopy off, it's balancing right at the wing tube. The canopy is going to throw that farther back. I have the batteries in the nose the the rest of the gear in the usual places.

COLBYBARON, I think the manual is in error. I have mine balanced near the rear of the wing tube. This location results in inverted flight requiring slight down elevator at mid-throttle. The ignition and receiver batteries are up front. Hope this helps.

I've had one of these since Dec 2006. It has had a couple of gallons through it now with no problems with the hinges. Mine is balanced right on the wing tube and flies great.

bigal422 and wsantore, thanks for the help. So that I am comparing apples to apples, is the balance point you each mention achieved with the canopy off, or kinda set off to the side (obviously not fully in place or you can't hold it up by the wing tube, heh).

update.... I also emailed Airwild and here is what they said:
Colby, Our mistake. Wing tube is your balance point, which is 130mm. To balance and support the plane by the wing tube, simply slide wing out slightly (enough to still keep the anti-rotation dowels engaged) loop a piece of twine around the exposed wing tube. Make sure canopy is on also. Regards, Jerry Bien AirWild |

Yep, that's how I did mine, I used spider wire to lessen the drag of using string or twine. I also tried projecting the balance point out to the tips and had a friend help with a fingertip.

Yea, I just slid the wing out a little bit. It is an awsome flying plane. I'll try and post a few pics of mine tomorrow as I am at work till 3:00am.

On the rudder pull-pull setup, when I run the cables in parallel like the manual says, they drag against fuse supports inside the tail. When I criss cross them, they drag on the opening slit in the tail. Dammed if I do, dammed if I don't. Anyone else run into this?

Yea, I had the same problem. I talked to Airwild about the problem. They said it wasn't a problem and that it how they did the proto. I didn't like the way it was so I got an offset arm and crossed them. I just ran a section of antenna tubing where it was rubbing the tail.

Final pics of my build....
dl-50, spektrum, a123 batteries (2 rcvr, 1 ignition) castle BEC for ignition, no regulator needed for receiver, hs-5955's. My buddies fly DL's now. Supposed to be awesome power, reliable, and cheap... so I'm trying one. Wasted money on a CF spinner. It was too light so had to add a stick of lead to compensate. 15.5lbs according to my rather crappy scale. |
