Yeah.........It was pretty durned cold! I hate flying against a totally grey sky too.........everything kinda blends together.

Leviton is the company I work for. They're an electrical equipment manufacturer. You probably have some Leviton recepticals, light sockets, or something of that nature in your house. We have something in 90% of the structures in the country. I work for the Lighting Management Division.

If you're running a 6014 receiver with older 5955 servos (more than a year or so old)... you'll definately want to either send the servos back to Hitec for an update or include a power box with your setup. I think the update is actually a resistor change or some other hardware update... not firmware. I would also recommend, since you have plenty of available channels on the receiver, to go to separate signal lines for each servo (assuming you have enough radio channels). Y-cables are fine for smaller planes, but when you take static voltage from the receiver and start splitting it out to multiple servos, you're asking for problems... especially with the current receiver/servo combos. It also simplifies setting the max throws on each servo properly. With only 2.9 volts on the signal channel on a 6014, I don't know how they would work with a matchbox... haven't tried it.

I had the same problem when I set up one of my first 6014 planes last year... went to a Smart-Fly power box and all problems were resolved instantly. It's really not a bad investment to make absolutely certain that you are getting a good clean 3 volt signal and 6 volts power to every servo in the plane.

I actually ended up plugging each servo into a seperate channel and this seemed to work out fine......no jitters after that. I may still consider a power expander.....after all it is cheap insurance.

Well, over the last couple of days (an hour here and hour there) I managed to take a heat gun and iron to the covering. The covering was really good with very few big wrinkles, has some minor ones on the wings, stab/elevator and rudder. The fuse was very good with just some tightening needed in spots. I did notice that the grey/silver would tightened up quicker and with less heat that the blue or red. First time working with Monokote, I have worked with the Ultracote before and there is some differences.
Started to glue the hinges and airlerons in place, mount the sevos on the stabs. That's about it for now, will post some covering before photos next time.

you'll really start to enjoy that plane once you have her trimmed/balanced out. we have found the cg to be fairly moveable and good in several positions. you'll really love this plane....ours is great!

Here are a couple of photo's showing the covering before I ironed any wrinkles out, there was not very many to iron out. There was a couple of places on the wings, but no worse than this.

You got lucky. When I got mine out of the box it looked great. But a couple of hours later the covering was falling off of the plane. It took a full day just to do the covering. I hate monokote.

Its not Monokote that does that. It improper ironing of the covering to begin with. When planes are massed produced they don't always get everything exactly perfect.

My 42% Extra has monokote and its never had 1 wrinkle in the covering from day 1. Its been through sitting in the extreme heat of Vegas to the wet cold of the NW.

Not only that but moving the wood from humid China on a boat to a moist warehouse environment to your dry, warm shop or dry atmosphere like California will allow the wood to shrink slightly, causing some wrinkles to form on most ARFs. When I cover my own planes I usually stretch the covering tight enough that it stays tight but hitting the covering of an ARF with an iron or heat gun just comes with the territory. My little Edge and Sukhoi required almost no work with the iron, while my big Edge took some time getting the covering down nice and tight.

The PAU 36% Edge that I got has even less wrinkles on it. MonoKote is very different to work with than UltraCote, I found more heat is needed with the MonoKote.

i've also found that monocote takes a hotter iron. i'm not saying that is bad, that has just been my experience.

Finally Got-R-Dun! Seems like it took forever but I finally finished my Ultimate. DA-100 on standard muffs, Smartfly Power expander, regulator and ignition cutoff, 3XFromeco 2600's, JR 1221 reciever, Hitec 5955's on everything, J&J tail wheel, custom made Graphtec C/F landing gear, C/F wing tubes, Kevlar flying wires, B&B fuel tank on CG etc. etc. Came in at exactly 29 Lbs and tail heavy to start off with. I could probably get it to 28Lbs but I want to see how she fly's first. Made a few adjustments and it's right at the rear C/G limits. Now all I need is some good WX and I'll take for it's maiden.

Skippykix, looks nice. What size prop are you using and what No Limitz spinner do you have on there? Planning on any photos or video on the maiden?

I'm using a Zoar 27X10 prop with a 4.5 inch fiberglass Nolimitz spinner that I got from PAU. I'll get more photo's and post them when I finally get it in the air, maybe next week.
