Oilsands, I believe it's a Extra style spinner. It was the only style PAU had in stock at the time but after I got it on the plane I kind of like it better than the ultimate style.

jdearduff, Thanks for the heads up on the upper tube. I guy at my field had also mentioned that was a week point. I have the center of the tube wrapped and will keep a close eye on it. I also understand that the original prototype aircraft was lost to an upper wing tube failure.

Just reading through your post with pics, 29lbs with all that carbon bling on it? Did you weigh it with a bathroom scale or a digital mail scale? I have a da on mine and Ill have to weigh it next time out, mines stock and has to be less than 29lbs.

May I ask how you mounted the rudder servo in the rear of the fuse? I am going to put a DA-100 in my Ultimate and would probably benefit from moving the rudder servo back for CG purposes. |

John, I used a postal scale to weigh it. I could probably loose a few ounces here or there by ditching the wheel pants, spinner etc. etc. but then it will look like butt and I wouldn't want to fly it much. Let me know what yours weighs in at. Skip.

jkhorvath, There is plenty of meat in the tail section on the plane. I found the two slots where the pull pull wires come out at and cut a servo sized hole above that using the pull pull slot as the bottom of the servo hole. A guy at my field showed me this on his Ultimate and it worked great. Let me know if you need a better picture of how I mounted them and I'll post them here.

jkhorvath, I did something similar to what Skippykix did on my 50cc PAU Edge, to help balance out the heavy engine I originally had on it. In addition to finding a good section of plywood to cut a servo hole (and preferrably near a former to keep the strength up), I cut a rectangular ply doubler and glued it to the inside of the ply servo hole. That helps keep the strength up and provides more wood for the servo screws to bolt into.

Skippykix/Flyfalcons;
Placing the rudder servo in the rear of the fuse is something that I would really like to do with my Ultimate. I would appreciate it if one or both of you could post pictures of how you did this. I could use pics of the inside of the fuse to figure out how to build up the servo reinforcement. Pics of the outside of the fuse from Skippykix would help me determine where to mount the servo. |

I have attached a few photos of the tail servos that I did on my Ultimate. Basically find the slot where the pull pull wires come out (at the tip of my finger in the picture) and use that as your starting point to make the cut out. Back it up with a couple of small pieces of hardwood glued to the inside where the servo screws will go and thats about it. Use 1.5 inch servo arms for maximum throw and remember your going to have to program the servos either with a programmer if your using Hitec's or with matchbox's if your using JR servos to keep them from binding. It's actually very easy to do and only took about 45 min to an hour to complete
. Hope this helps.

This plane has been around for a few years now, and the scheme has stayed the same. My question is, has the design changed at all over the years, or is it still being produced in the same original design scope?

I'm trying to get them to change the Scheme and add can mounts to the design.

can mounts would be nice. the design is really an okay one. we love ours and have several flights on it with no signs of failure anywhere. it is a powerhouse with the 3w 100 on reg muffs. i would like to have cans on it just for the noise but at our field there are no db restrictions....
keep up the good work, it looks great!
